Last night I received a message from Barron:

Janelle and I just got permanently banned on FB. No possible appeal, no idea why.

…

And I mean at the same time. It was working for both of us this morning and then the traffic of me being gone started on the side channel. Janelle went to look and she was logged out and they said her account was disabled.

This is weird. It’s not like Barron and Janelle had followings which could change election outcomes. Nor were they advocating terrorist activities (although they do have three small boys which might be considered terrorists if you were sleep deprived and they were being particularly active).

So, what could be the motivation for their simultaneous banishment? I have to think it was some sort of political issue. But without additional data it’s tough to test that hypothesis.

It’s happening to others too.

[I-976 is primarily about reducing car license fees. It also required “Sound Transit’s bonds had to be retired early or refinanced”. The Washington State constitution specifically requires that all initiatives be limited to a single subject. That I-976 violated the constitutional requirement of a single subject resulted in a 9-0 ruling against it.

At first glance the average reader might wonder why this blog would have a particular interest in this case. Let me assure you this is EXTREMELY interesting to gun owners of this state.

I-1639 has so many different subjects that I won’t both to list them all. But here is a sample:

  • Enhanced background checks (page 3)
  • Training requirements (page 4)
  • Additional license fees for “semiauto assault rifle” (page 8)
  • Waiting period of 10 days for “semiauto assault rifles” (page 10)
  • Secure gun storage required in the home (page 10)
  • Gun dealers must post warnings about unsecured gun storage (page 12)
  • Out of state residents are prohibited from purchasing “semiautomatic assault rifles” (interesting loophole pointed out to me recently is that it is apparently legal give or loan such a rifle to an out of state resident) (page 21)
  • Persons under 21 may not purchase a “semiauto assault rifle” (page 22)
  • Provides for the department of licensing to develop a process to frequently verify, “that persons who acquired pistols or semiautomatic assault rifles pursuant to this chapter remain eligible to possess a firearm under state and federal law” (page 23)

Wouldn’t a reasonable person conclude the above subjects constitute more than one subject? Or would the Washington Supreme Court, which probably has never seen a gun law it didn’t approve of, conclude, “It’s all about guns. This is is a single subject. Case closed.” I give it about a 75% chance the court would claim it’s a single subject.

In addition to the consistent hostility of the court toward gun owners there is another reason why civil rights groups may avoid this approach.

There is already a Federal lawsuit working it’s way through the courts challenging I-1639 on numerous other issues. If the Federal lawsuit succeeds then it has nationwide impact. If a lawsuit in state court succeeds before the Federal lawsuit is concluded then the Federal lawsuit would likely be declared moot and the impact of a victory over I-1639 would be limited to the State of Washington.—Joe]

At the SCOTUS level a judge’s job is not to deliver “justice”. It is to interpret and apply the law. If the judge is ruling in terms of what is “just” then they are little more than another legislative branch elected, for life, by the President and the Senate.

Leftists see SCOTUS as needing to be politically “balanced”. At least as long as they can’t have the court entirely filled with those who administer “justice” from the left. This is wrong.

There is no “balance” when reading the law of the legislative and the founders. There are only various degrees, including zero, of error in interpreting and applying it to the case under consideration.

The first two sentences in the image at the beginning of this post appears to be correct. I have not tried to verify the second paragraph from the image. But it would appear that if it is true, and history runs essentially the same course, then the Democrat Party of America will be crushed by American Nazis.

That seems to be unlikely at this point. If strong opposition to Antifa forms it would seem to be more likely it is a mainstream majority demanding “law and order”.

Regardless, we live in interesting times. Day zero is four weeks away.

Boomershoot infrastructure improvements

I was at the Boomershoot site this last weekend. I had two main tasks. The most important was to bring the explosives magazine up to ATF spec. The shrouds around the locks on the explosives magazine were inadequate:

Many years ago I received a variance from the ATF on them. I recently changed the ownership and the ATF license from my dba FlashTek to  Boomershoot LLC. With that change, for some reason, the old variance did not transfer (I know, but remember, it’s a government rule. It doesn’t have to make sense). In the mean time there were additional rulings on the use of this type of lock. They clarified the requirements for the shrouds. I needed to improve them. I bought a cheap welder that could be operated by my 3kW generator and the steel to reduce the gap by 2.5”. I made the changes on Saturday without setting anything, or myself, on fire. There weren’t even any burn holes in my pants or minor skin burns.

The other issue was the top of the shipping container was in danger of developing leaks again. I strongly considered building some sort of covering over it myself but eventually decided I would rather have a professional take care of it in a more permanent manner. I received one bid by someone who proposed a sloped roof over the top which would have cost more than I originally paid for the container. Then another guy from Lewiston suggested a layer of plywood with TPO over the top and bid $1,700. I accepted and it was installed this weekend:

It should last 15 to 20 years as long as it doesn’t have a tree fall on it or something.

It is such a relief to get that done. It was really tough to even find someone to return my calls and now it is done before the fall rains and the heavy snow arrive.
