Anti-Gunners Crazy Beliefs

Quote of the Day

Anti-gunners believe all kinds of crazy things which aren’t true. Those crazy beliefs do tend to have the common denominator of bolstering their sense of moral supremacy though.

Part of their problem is they do not have a process for determining truth from falsity (Peterson Syndrome). They have a set of beliefs based on what they feel. If feelings do not match reality that does not matter. Their feelings, and therefore beliefs, remain intact.

Is it a Lie? Or is it Ignorance?

Quote of the Day

What’s the efficacy of banning these magazine clips? I will tell you these are ammunition, they’re bullets, so the people who have those know they’re going to shoot them, so if you ban them in the future, the number of these ‘high capacity’ magazines is going to decrease dramatically over time because the bullets will have been shot and there won’t be any more available.

Diana DeGette

Is it a lie? Or is it profound ignorance? I could go either way on it. I’m certain many people would believe her. And that false belief will increase the likelihood of passing magazine bans.

Just keep in mind that people like her are making the laws you will be prosecuted with.

Prepare and respond appropriately.

Not Smart Enough To Create a Plausible Lie

Quote of the Day

Only the right wing gun nut teachers carry guns,a lot of them so t and flat out refuse to.These undervalued/ underpaid teachers should be able to go into their schools knowing a shooter armed with an semi automatic weapon will not be able to enter because they weapons are illegal

Crap for brains. Frequently one can make a case for lying. But, in this case, I don’t think they are smart enough to create a plausible lie.

It Could be Worse. They Could Have Invoked Markley’s Law

Quote of the Day

Notable strong law states like Illinois and Maryland remain plagued with high gun violence in their biggest cities—in large part because they’re targeted by traffickers. Indeed an outsized share of likely trafficked crime guns recovered in Illinois begin their journey in states with weak laws. And Virginia, which had weak gun purchase laws until 2020, has long been the top supplier of crime guns into Maryland. At the other end of the scale, states like New Hampshire, Vermont, and Rhode Island have unusually low gun death rates compared with their somewhat weaker policies, in part because they are buffered by robust laws among other states in the region.

If guns are freely available in one state how do they imagine restrictions, or even complete bans, in an adjacent state will reduce the criminals using guns the free state?

Who do they think will believe such crap? Being as generous as possible, this is crazy talk. But are they really crazy? The more likely explanation is this is the best deliberate lie they could come up with. Lies and deception it’s what they do.

PinocchioEverytown

I can think of less believable lies, but not by much. They could have invoked Markley’s Law to explain the differences.

Knifes and Swords are Okay, Guns are Yucky

Quote of the Day

If Americans where brave enough they could give up all their guns and use their bodies as weapons, they could learn martial arts, self defense, knives attacks and even fight with swords to “defend” themselves but they are too fat and lazy to do something brave. A bunch of fearful cowards. If you rely in a gun to be “secure” you have a big, big problem and try to use a stupid logic to justify guns is not going to solve it.

Gun Control NOW

As I read things like this I wonder if when they get the words out and then read their own delusions, do they realize it is crazy talk and publish it anyway? Or do they actually think it is something profound and is enlightenment for the dimwitted masses?

Another hypothesis I have about this sort of thing, and it is particularly obvious here, is the phrase “stupid logic”. This could be interpreted at least two different ways. One is that they believe gun rights advocates use faulty logic. And the other is that logic as a means of determining proper courses of action is stupid. There are many people who abhor reason. I suspect the great mass of gun control advocates are of this opinion and idly-raven17 is one of those.

Natural Stupidity

Quote of the Day

I’m supposed to be worried about Artificial Intelligence destroying us all, but the fact is our Natural Stupidity is more than adequate for the job.

Roberta X
September 21, 2023
Threat Spectrum

Case in point:

The latest round of state test results is raising alarm in Baltimore City Schools. Project Baltimore found that 40% of Baltimore City high schools, where the state exam was given, did not have any students score proficient in math. Not one student.

But that’s not the only alarming finding we made. In those 13 high schools, 1,736 students took the test, and 1,295 students, or 74.5%, scored a one out of four. One is the lowest level, meaning those students were not even close to proficient.

I don’t know if the demonstrated natural stupidity is on the part of the students, teachers, or (or we should embrace the power of “and”?) administrators. But this is scary stuff. From just one city there are now thousands (this has been going on for several years) of young adults with near zero math ability. These sort of people have been diffused into society for decades years now.

As a Heinlein character famously said:

Anyone who cannot cope with mathematics is not fully human.  At best he is a tolerable subhuman who has learned to wear shoes, bathe, and not make messes in the house.

A case can be made that our country, if not the whole world, is on a superhighway to Idiocracy. An alternate hypothesis is that there will be a great collapse, a massive die off, and those who survive will be “the best and brightest” and the human race will be the better for it.

I don’t know which scenario is more likely. But I am in agreement with Roberta when she said natural stupidity is more than adequate to destroy us all.

This is an interesting assertion. Our small arms, such as AR-15s, are “toys”. So, this guy wants them highly restricted and/or banned. If they are mere toys, then what is the point of banning them?

Don’t try to debate people like this. You can’t have a battle of wits with an unarmed person.

Manage Your Expectations to be Consistent With Reality

Quote of the Day

For years, the ATF allowed unrestricted use of the braces, invented for use by handicapped target shooters, but under Biden moved to ban or regulate them. The White House claimed they are “weapons of war” though only two “mass shootings” have involved the guns, which are typically used for target shooting and hunting.

An estimated 3 million to 20 million are in use, and making the changes could cost owners a total of some $2 billion over 10 years, said the court.

The ATF rule kicked in this year and the agency gave owners a few months to comply and skip the tax. But just about 250,000 decided to register their guns, a far worse compliance rate than expected.

So, between 1% and 8% registered their guns. Whoever expected more than that is severely out of touch with reality. That is typical in the U.S. and Canada, and probably elsewhere as well.

Gifted People

Quote of the Day

Most people live in an inner reality that is only very tenuously related to actual reality. To be capable of achieving that level of self-delusion must be nice. We’re all capable of it to a degree… but some people are very gifted.

Today I was to a coworker on almost this same topic. Smart people can be very convincing about their delusions.

Do you want to break through the delusion or at least determine for yourself if they are delusional or perhaps more closely in touch with reality than you?

Ask this question of both them and yourself, “What is the process by which you determine truth from falsity?” Then compare the two processes as applied to your current situation.

Alternate Universe?

Quote of the Day

Justice Frankfurter warned 80 years ago that the Supreme Court was going down a bad path by getting into the business of ranking constitutional rights, protecting some at the expense of others, and today his dissent illuminates what has gone very wrong with our current Supreme Court. In a string of cases decided by an unchecked conservative super-majority, the court has established a tiering of constitutional rights, elevating rights to religious liberty (for some), free speech, and guns over and above other fundamental rights such as equality, public health and security, and bodily autonomy.

Katherine Franke
James L. Dohr Professor of Law at Columbia University and the founder and faculty director of the Law, Rights, and Religion Project.
July 18, 2023
We’ve Entered a New Era of Tiered Constitutional Rights

Is Franke a visitor from an alternate universe and is working from a different U.S. Constitution? In my universe and reading my copy of the U.S. constitution there is no mention of “fundamental rights such as equality, public health and security, and bodily autonomy*.”

I would attribute the addition of these new rights to ignorance or poor schooling. But Franke claims she is a Professor of Law at Columbia University. If true, I find it hare to imagine she is so ignorant or poorly schooled that she did not have an accurate copy of the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and been required to read them on multiple occasions. Hence the I am forced to conclude there must be an alternate explanation.

One could claim this is a deliberate lie intended to deceive the masses. But the lie is so obvious one could not expect it to accomplish, in the best case, a cause for laughter at her expense.

Hence, my leading hypothesis to explain this outrageous misrepresentation of the words and meaning of the constitution is that she is delusional and/or is a visitor from an alternate dimension.

I also find it quite telling there is no means to leave comments on her opinion piece.

* The Fourth Amendment reference to “secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures” appears to be limited to “searches and seizers” and it would be difficult to stretch it to mean “bodily autonomy.”

Logic is an Alien Concept

Quote of the Day

As the Court previously explained, the issue in this case is whether ATF may properly regulate a component as a “frame or receiver” even after ATF determines that the component in question is not a frame or receiver. It may not. Logic dictates that a part cannot be both not yet a receiver and receiver at the same time. Defendants’ reliance on that logical contradiction is fatal to their argument.

I didn’t realize taking money from the general population and giving to people because of their skin color change people’s racial souls. In fact, I didn’t realize there was such a thing as racial souls. And how does an “interracial democracy” differ from an ordinary democracy?

It is exceedingly rare that I have read an article with so much fluff and gibberish with so little content. It is truly a marvel of rainbows and unicorns. It must be all the schooling required to become a professor that enabled him to get so out of touch with reality.

Dunning–Kruger Effect on Display

Quote of the Day

I think the time and energy it would take to ratify a 28th Amendment could be put to better use.

Instead of taking decades to secure approval of two-thirds of Congress and three-fourths of the states, I believe a gun summit at Camp David — with gun-rights advocates, law enforcement and survivors — could hammer out new, commonsense gun safety measures in a matter of days.

We no longer know how to think critically. Subjectivity and nihilism rule supreme: the deranged, post-modernist woke cargo cult claims that there no longer is truth, just our truths. As I have said before:
