I think I’ll keep her

Barb and I went out for dinner for Valentines Day and, among other things, we happened to discuss the possibility I would visit Idaho soon to visit family and do some Boomershoot prep. She reminded me I needed to count how many wooden stakes we have for mounting the targets on. For some reason Barb just loves pounding stakes into the ground (I kid) and she was, as usual, thinking months ahead. She suggested that after dinner we stop by Lowe’s on the way home and pick up whatever stakes they have and then once I know how many we have left over from last year I can pick up the balance in a week or three. Valentines celebration and she is thinking of Boomershoot? This one is a keeper.

Lowe’s in Bellevue had two boxes of eight bundles (25 stakes per bundle) and one stray bundle. I left the one stray for someone else, purchased the two boxes, and now I have this in the back of my vehicle:

As usual (see here, here, here, here, and here), I was prepared with a vampire comment if they asked why I was buying so many stakes. I was disappointed. The guy didn’t seem very bright (Barb commented too) and needed help counting the bundles. I don’t think it occurred to him that 400 stakes was a large quantity. Oh well. Maybe next time.

Barb also made a trip to Costco this week and asked if I wanted her to buy some more of the secret Boomerite ingredient. Sure!

When she brought it into the house she told me she was ready with an answer if they asked what she was going to do with 21 pounds of <redacted>. They didn’t ask. Maybe if she had purchased some anti-freeze at the same time she would have gotten a reaction.

Last night she told me, “I’m just going to keep bugging you until you send an email to the boy scout guy about supplying food at lunch time.” I replied, “I already did that last night. I haven’t got an answer back yet though. Thanks for reminding me.”

Then later last night she showed me the menu for the caterer of the Saturday dinner and asked that I discuss the options with her and make a final decision (we agreed upon roast beef, baked potatoes, fresh fruit, spinach salad, and carrot cake).

This morning she told she realized it was over two months away but she was thinking about what food to bring to the hotel for our personal meals.

She’s got Boomershoot on the brain. No more than I do when we are a couple weeks out, but she, as usual, is planning months ahead.

I think I’ll keep her.

Snowmageddon

A week ago on Sunday afternoon (the 5th) it started snowing in the Seattle area. The higher elevations (300 – 500 feet) in particular usually get a dusting of snow one or more times each winter. But it only rarely accumulates more than an inch or two and only lasts a few hours or maybe a couple of days.

It turns out I had just started testing the webcam I plan to install at the Boomershoot shooting line and I captured some of the snow accumulation and melting. Click on the images to see a higher resolution version with the timestamp visible in the upper right hand corner:

Oregon Counties Declare Sanctuary Status Against Gun Control

Four counties in the state of Oregon have declared sanctuary status, saying they will not enforce the universal background checks which Democrats heaved upon the state in 2015.

This reminds me of pre-civil war issues. There were the free states and the slave states. And then there were Federal laws requiring slaves being returned to their “owners” even if they had escaped and made it into a free state.

We are very much in a civil war now over a number of issues. We just haven’t started shooting yet.

We have interesting times ahead of us.

Boomershoot 2017 update

People are making plans and we are getting more entries for Boomershoot 2017. See one online discussion here.

There is also going to be sales push soon. Among other things I’m going to start distributing flyers at the local ranges and place an ad in the Orofino Idaho paper to get the attention of the locals.

Currently there are still many great positions available. But we are currently 63% full and the available positions will be dwindling. If you are thinking of attending but haven’t got around to signing up you should stop procrastinating and go do it.

Separate for a moment the wisdom of the policy from the politics of the execution. I know most regular readers here think Trump’s 7-nation temporary incoming travel ban makes sense, even if it doesn’t go far enough, and it is certainly legal. Preaching to the coir and all that. But let’s look at the other side a moment, just how it was done, and what happened, what’s the fallout, and where do things go from here.

He issued an executive order that basically said “use this 2015 law Obama signed to prohibit travel from these problematic nations, and prohibit travel from these nations Obama designated as problematic.” The left totally loses their collective shit, judges in Seattle and elsewhere issue injunctions to halt it, the media melts down, paid protestors collect their paycheck, and it’s all literally worse than Hitler going into the Sudetenland (or it would be if the leftists knew what that was, but ya’ll know what I mean). It goes to the 9th Circuit, where a 3-judge panel uphold the stay. The media crows and dances about how they stuck it to the man! “well, crap!” was the common sentiment on the right.

So, now what? Trump had to have seen this coming, even though it’s really stupid and self-defeating.They – the left – walked right into the trap, and are now bragging about how tasty all the free food is. More brand new discoveries by the left

In addition to the constitution and the concept of limits on executive power being good things, the leftists appear to have discovered, for the first time ever, the notion that government interference in our affairs may result in brain drain, and also in “instability and uncertainty” in the economy.

It’s as if they’ve heard us and understood us all along, and just didn’t give a damn.

As I’ve been saying recently, it is a mistake to assume gross stupidity among your enemies. They know, and they laugh at you calling them stupid.

Of course they’re still incapable of openly distinguishing between legal immigration and illegal immigration, because that would blow their current gig. The WA Post article is based entirely on that lie of non-distinction.

They’ll use that lie now, in the courts, and muck up immigration enforcement as much possible. We will play along as though they actually had the power to do that, thus granting them that power. And so it will have been conservatives and libertarians who broke with the principles, as much as the Progressive Marxists.

Just as sure as you’re born, however, the leftist agitator sector will at some point even recognize the importance of preventing the courts from assuming authority they do not have, over-stepping their purpose and exceeding their constitutional limits. But they’ll only recognize that when it suits them. Today it does not suit them.

You may call them stupid, or blithering idiots or whatever. I’ll call them brilliantly evil.

They’re coming to grab your guns. They’re your friends, family, loved ones. Even strangers will do it, if you let them. Some reporters have been known to do it, too, if you invite them.

With your permission, these people will take your gun, gently, from your hands into theirs. Shoot, they will. Learn, they must.

They will touch your gun all over. And another one. And another one. And other one. So many makes, so many models!

Questions will be asked, probed. They’ll load your gun, but certainly won’t loathe your gun. They’ll ooh, ahh, ogle, and be in awe of your gun(s).

It goes unsaid, but for those who don’t know: you will teach them to keep it pointed in a safe direction.

They might even “borrow” your ammunition. And leave behind the brass.

Though your ammo will be spent, you’ll oftentimes expect no reimbursement.

When the moment, or day, or shooting weekend is over, they’ll express gratitude, then return your tool, graciously.

You’ll clean the instrument, without minding at all.

Not only is an armed society a polite society, it’s a gunsharing, caring society.

If you’re a righteous gun owner, you’re essentially part of the gunsharing community. Gunsharing is a voluntary, legal activity in which one person owns and shares their gun(s) with one or more people, whilst providing gun safety teaching, free of charge. This is done out of compassion, because gun owners care about sharing their knowledge, skills, and tools.

After gunsharing, fellow gun users will want to grab your gun. Because it’s so much fun. Safe, too.

Gunsharing is it’s own little sharing economy of sorts.

This post goes out to all the men and women, who, over the years, have allowed me to familiarize myself with their magnificent tools. Thank you. And you. And you. And you.
