Quote of the day—NRA-ILA

It’s not that the permitting standards of these states are any more effective in screening out dangerous applicants. It’s that concealed carry permits in those states are treated as the exclusive domain of the wealthy and the connected. The idea that “common” people would have the same rights simply offends the ruling elite’s sense of entitlement.

Cornyn Introduces the “Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017” in the Senate
[I’m sure this is at least part of the reason for some people. This would be particularly true for those who can afford their own armed guards (Mayor Bloomberg, I’m talking to you).

But another part is that anti-gun people who understand sociology and psychology know that they cannot let the right to keep and bear arms be seen as normal. The more people who openly keep and bear arms the more ordinary it becomes and once it becomes commonplace they will have lost.

We are winning the battle to carry handguns in public and getting reciprocity in all 50 states will probably be the last significant “coffin nail” in that battle. There will be “cleanup” of things like carry in Post Offices, schools, government buildings, and on airplanes, but it will very, very tough for them to regain the ground they have lost with so many people carrying so many guns so much of the time. It will also give us traction in the anti-gun states like New Jersey, Hawaii, California, and New York to repeal some of their repressive gun laws. This, I suspect, is the big fear of the anti-gun people.—Joe]

The future of America

From The Kansas City Star:

TOPEKA — U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, delivering the keynote speech Kansas Democratic Party’s annual convention Saturday night in Topeka, told a crowd of progressives not to despair in the face of President Donald Trump’s election.

Sanders, who won the 2016 Kansas caucus by more than 35 percentage points, touted the support he received from young voters during his presidential campaign and said that he ended the campaign much more optimistic about the direction of the country than when he started it.

“Our vision, our progressive vision, is not only the future of the Democratic Party, it is the future of America,” Sanders said.

Interesting delusion. Sanders is 75 years old, he lost the nomination to the person who suffered a decisive loss in the presidential election, which was to the political party that controls a large majority of the state legislators and governorships, and he thinks his vision of the way things should be, will be the future of our country.

Spain appointed a ‘sex tsar’

Spain appoints ‘sex tsar’ in bid to boost declining population:

Spain reported a higher number of deaths than births for the first time last year

In response and faced with an impending population crisis, the government has appointed Edelmira Barreira to the position of sex tsar.

The portfolio was created by Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy and Ms Barreira, a demographic expert, will help draft a document for a national strategy of demographic imbalances.

Spain’s education ministry said the declining birth-rate “aggravates other economic imbalances and generates important “impacts” in the Welfare State”, Spanish news site ABC reported.

Well… there’s the problem. Socialism. It’s the weapon of choice when you want to destroy a people.

Quote of the day—Azadeh Ansari

Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner recently signed a new gun control law that imposes harsher penalties on those who bring in guns from out of state to sell and do not have gun-owner ID cards. Illinois already has some of the strictest gun-control laws in the nation however it’s done little to stem the violence.

Last year, marked the deadliest year the city has seen in nearly two decades with a reported 762 homicides.

Seven shot dead – including pregnant mother – in one day in gun controlled Chicago
[Gee… I wonder if there is a connection between “the strictest gun-control laws in the nation” and “the deadliest year the city has seen in nearly two decades”.

Of course there is.

President Trump has been suggesting he will send in troops to put an end to it. I think sending in Federal Marshals to arrest those passing and enforcing gun control laws, followed by self-defense handgun training for the average person, would work far better and be far cheaper.

Norwegian Border: No Swedes?

Interesting development with the Swedish problem. Norway is considering a bill to shut its border with Sweden if it collapses. This would be in defiance of international convention. I means that Norway is taking a serious look at the problem with their long-time neighbor and saying “Holy CRAP!” The bill hasn’t passed yet, but it has “broad support.” If it passes, will it be enough to wake up Sweden to the magnitude of its problem? I don’t know. There are already a number of town with more Arabic/ME men of military age than native Swedes, by 20% or more, and there are very few (relatively speaking) muslim women of similar age. That’s a disaster waiting to happen. Anyone who cannot see it must be very highly educated / indoctrinated, or really, REALLY stupid. If they can see it and want to do this whole immigration thing anyway, they are evil.

As part of the peaceful protest, pop singer Madonna, a keynote speaker, called for blowing up the White House. No arrest was reported. Signs carried by the protesters were the most vicious, vulgar, obscene, profane, pornographic, disgraceful, disgusting, expletive-laced, hysterically funny and unfit for broadcast ever seen in a demonstration, gleefully published by lamestream media and widely available on the web, proving once again that everything the left accuses everyone else of — is psychological projection of themselves.

Funny:

Oregon Counties Declare Sanctuary Status Against Gun Control

Four counties in the state of Oregon have declared sanctuary status, saying they will not enforce the universal background checks which Democrats heaved upon the state in 2015.

This reminds me of pre-civil war issues. There were the free states and the slave states. And then there were Federal laws requiring slaves being returned to their “owners” even if they had escaped and made it into a free state.

We are very much in a civil war now over a number of issues. We just haven’t started shooting yet.

We have interesting times ahead of us.

A master at work…

Separate for a moment the wisdom of the policy from the politics of the execution. I know most regular readers here think Trump’s 7-nation temporary incoming travel ban makes sense, even if it doesn’t go far enough, and it is certainly legal. Preaching to the coir and all that. But let’s look at the other side a moment, just how it was done, and what happened, what’s the fallout, and where do things go from here.

He issued an executive order that basically said “use this 2015 law Obama signed to prohibit travel from these problematic nations, and prohibit travel from these nations Obama designated as problematic.” The left totally loses their collective shit, judges in Seattle and elsewhere issue injunctions to halt it, the media melts down, paid protestors collect their paycheck, and it’s all literally worse than Hitler going into the Sudetenland (or it would be if the leftists knew what that was, but ya’ll know what I mean). It goes to the 9th Circuit, where a 3-judge panel uphold the stay. The media crows and dances about how they stuck it to the man! “well, crap!” was the common sentiment on the right.

So, now what? Trump had to have seen this coming, even though it’s really stupid and self-defeating.They – the left – walked right into the trap, and are now bragging about how tasty all the free food is. It’s such a huge trap that one or more judges on the 9th Circus sees it and is calling for an en blanc review. Trump didn’t even have to appeal. Why? Continue reading

Quote of the day—Winston Churchill

“Honesty is the best policy.” Several examples of this will be shown in these pages. Crafty men and statesmen will be shown misled by all their elaborate calculations. But this is the signal instance. Only twenty-two months were to pass before Stalin and the Russian nation in its scores of millions were to pay a frightful forfeit. If a Government has no moral scruples it often seems to gain great advantages and liberties of action, but “All comes out even at the end of the day, and all will come out yet more even when all the days are ended.”

More brand new discoveries by the left

In addition to the constitution and the concept of limits on executive power being good things, the leftists appear to have discovered, for the first time ever, the notion that government interference in our affairs may result in brain drain, and also in “instability and uncertainty” in the economy.

It’s as if they’ve heard us and understood us all along, and just didn’t give a damn.

As I’ve been saying recently, it is a mistake to assume gross stupidity among your enemies. They know, and they laugh at you calling them stupid.

Of course they’re still incapable of openly distinguishing between legal immigration and illegal immigration, because that would blow their current gig. The WA Post article is based entirely on that lie of non-distinction.

They’ll use that lie now, in the courts, and muck up immigration enforcement as much possible. We will play along as though they actually had the power to do that, thus granting them that power. And so it will have been conservatives and libertarians who broke with the principles, as much as the Progressive Marxists.

Just as sure as you’re born, however, the leftist agitator sector will at some point even recognize the importance of preventing the courts from assuming authority they do not have, over-stepping their purpose and exceeding their constitutional limits. But they’ll only recognize that when it suits them. Today it does not suit them.

You may call them stupid, or blithering idiots or whatever. I’ll call them brilliantly evil.

New Mexico Sheriffs’ Association

This scheme would be unenforceable without creating a gun registry. We know this because a 2013 U.S. Department of Justice internal memo on gun violence prevention strategies stated that the success of expanded background check laws depends on requiring firearm registration.

New Mexico Sheriffs’ Association Opposes Bloomberg Gun Control Bills
[Many people claim registration is the real reason the anti-gun people are pushing universal background check laws. One of the pieces of evidences for this is the legislators pushing the UBCs refuse to consider systems where a drivers license has an “endorsement” for gun ownership if there is no disqualifications in your background or allowing a concealed weapons permit to be used instead of a background check. If there are now records kept, by the government, of the background check then they refuse to consider it.

“Gun registration” are fighting words and will be vigorously opposed by gun owners in this country.—Joe]

Karma – A dish best served cold

Or is that mixing to many metaphors?

In 2013 Reid and the senate Democrats killed the filibuster for some sorts of things, like Federal appointments. People on the left raved about how brave it was, how the filibuster was dated, anti-democratic, etc.

Shoe, meet other foot. Two nominally R senators defected from the narrow majority to vote against Trump’s Sec of Ed choice, Betsy DeVoss, to make it a tie vote. The vote could be forced and cast because of the no-longer-applicable filibuster had been removed, so it only required a simple majority to call for a vote. VP Pence cast the tie-breaking vote in favor of DeVoss. In office only few weeks and he’s already breaking ties. First time it’s ever needed to be done in fact. Definitely a term in office that will need lots of popcorn.

Joe, is your brother planning on planting popping corn this next year? I think the market prices for it are likely to rise with this surge in demand, and saying I’m going to go eat pop-lentils gets me some strange looks.

One of the most underrated qualities of Republicans is that they police their own ranks. If you have a problem with a violent Republican racist, call some Republicans. They’ll solve it for you.

But don’t call a Republican if you are simply offended by another person’s opinion. In that situation you want to call some Democrats to ridicule and physically attack the person with the objectionable opinion.

A cluster of issues come together with gun rights zealots. They’re predominantly older white males who think the country is falling apart at the seams; they’re suspicious of outsiders, and quick to blame others for issues the country may face. To get anything done in a culture of entrenched interests, one must either have an overwhelming political mandate to dismantle the entire machine–Trump does not–or you need Insiders who know the pressure points of the system and its key players–in effect, Insiders who know how to slip a political stiletto into the kidneys of key players and twist the blade to get done what would otherwise be impossible.
