Firefly: War Stories
[Jaime and I were watching Firefly for about the third time and this kind of jumped out at me and we had a little chat about the series. Josh Whedon created this series and it is, or at least Jaime and I she it as, filled with libertarian ideas. Yet Whedon is somewhat outspoken political with very non-libertarian ideas. We were unable to resolve this in the minute or so we devoted to it.

Now I wonder if perhaps Whedon views libertarians as idealist losers or some such thing. They have appealing principles but are totally impractical and will always lose when they face reality.

This would make them a great set of characters in the series. They are easy to be sympathetic with because they are basically good people. But they have a lot of conflict and stress because they are inherently unsuited for the reality of the situation they find themselves in.—Joe]

Governments love to commit genocide.
Here’s over 25 genocides with enough dead to be recorded. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_genocides_by_death_toll)
Genocide is NORMAL.
What’s not normal is fighting back with adequate weapons.
Anyone will fight back with a chair or a garden hoe when they come for your family.
But as Americans we have the rare birthright of fighting back with a level of firepower never before possessed in civilian hands.
Don’t wait for things to get bad before you get serious about demonstrating your skill.
Instead let your would-be rulers know that you can hit a pizza box at half a mile with a first round shot.

Here’s the thing America: we ARE coming for your guns.

You have nobody to blame but yourselves. You could have been reasonable. Instead, you’ve proven over and over that you’re NOT sane, you’re irresponsible, and you CAN’T be trusted with guns.

This is your fault.

[Don’t ever let anyone get away with telling you that no one wants to take your guns.

I find it telling that he speaks as if America were something he is not part of. America is an enemy to be conquered.

Also providing great insight is this tweet from Jonathan who tells us:

Ignore that this veteran is /grossly/ violating his oath. Instead, consider the verbiage.

Doesn’t he sound like the /classic/ abuser? “Look what you made me do.” “Why did you make me do this?”

All the while, /he/ won’t be the one at the front of the stack. Typical bully.

All personality disorders share two things. One is that nothing is ever their fault. It is always the fault of the victim of their abuse What you see above is more crazy talk that is so typical of anti-gun people.

My counselor and books I have read on how to deal with these type of crazy people have told me the way to deal with them is as follows:

  1. Tell them their behavior is unacceptable.
  2. Tell them there will be consequences if they violate the behavior rules.
  3. If they violate the rules make certain they suffer the consequences.

As my counselor told me, “Live will not be peaceful, but it will be much better than if you just take the abuse.” It’s time to stop the abuse.—Joe]

Denial of service by a spider

I have a security webcam set up to send me an email of the image when there is movement in its field of view.

A spider decided the camera lens (maybe the IR light was the attraction) was a nice place to do a dance. So… I started getting extremely frequent emails which had large attachments. This filled up the email box on my server and blocked incoming emails from people.

Denial of service by a spider.

It could have been worse. Do you remember my story about denial of service by a dust bunny?

Let’s stop pretending we are better than the Brits.
We laugh at their knife crime epidemic and their fear of guns.
We laugh at how we had to ship guns to them so they could fight back against the Nazis.
Instead of viewing them as an aberration, view Britain as normal.
When no one stands up for freedom, when no one is willing to take risks to pass on knowledge of resistance to tyranny, that fighting spirit withers.
The spirit of freedom shrinks.
And one day you wake up to find yourself watching a march go by your window of people who support the cops killing you because you carry a knife.
Stop assuming it can’t happen here.

Quote of the day—Amy Swearer

Reason demands that true courage be defined by a person’s willingness to defend the life and liberty of himself and those around him.

Disarming law-abiding citizens demands, on the other hand, that courage be defined by a person’s trust in the police to imprison the correct suspect after the person is already dead.

That is not only absurd, but dangerous.

Why Is London Imposing ‘Knife Control’? Because Gun Control Hasn’t Worked
[Also of note in the same article:

It’s important to note that comparisons of homicide rates between the United States and the United Kingdom are difficult because since 1967, the U.K.’s official definition of homicide for crime reports has been relatively unconcerned with the actual number of dead bodies.

Instead, the country only counts as homicides those instances where a person is convicted of murder—meaning justifiable homicides and deaths where no suspect is caught or convicted are excluded.

We have this myth of the Militia, of the Patriot, of the 3% who will fight back against an evil government.
But the reality is that many states already outlaw normal handguns and rifles, and we’ve not seen any organized resistance.
And when the government gets really violent and goes beyond passing laws into burning children, still the ‘militia’ is nowhere to be seen.

Dress code or uniform?

I have a dress code that I think should be universal:

  1. You should wear appropriate clothing to protect you from the elements.
  2. You should wear sufficient clothing to protect you from getting arrested.

Actually, #2 is just a special case of #1, but some people need to think about it a some to realize that so I usually make it a different line item.

I am reminded of this because in the collection of memes Rolf sent me was this one:

DressCode

Interesting comparison.

It certainly isn’t a “dress code”. But it could be some sort of attraction to that sort of uniform by people of the same personality type. I wonder if clothing preferences by different personality types have been researched.

I’ve heard that many women are sexually attracted to men in uniforms. I wonder if other strong correlations can be found as well and if that information could be useful in some way.

Upgrade

With all the anti-gun owner stuff going on when the NRA called last month I immediately upgraded my membership:

20180412_082437

When some Republican fundraiser called me yesterday I told him, “I’m very nearly a one issue voter. I care about gun ownership rights. You guys just passed a bunch of gun control stuff. We are done! I’m giving my money to the NRA. If you want it you need to earn it from them.” He tried to keep talking but I hung up on him.

Hate defined

HateDefined

Some of the words are a little difficult to read so here is the conversation in normal text:

Person A: And everything else

Person B: Yes. This.

Person C: Ya’lls likes are bringing me so many smiles. Thank you. Of course the first comment here (which I have deleted) was toxic sludge from a rich, straight white cis male.

Person D: If only we could delete them irl so easily.

Brian also adds:

I found this on the Facebook page of a person in Seattle.

Imagine publicly stating you were sick of a group of people (such as straight white men), based on an attribute that you assigned to the whole group (greedy!).

You’d never get elected and your friends would stop talking to you.

Unless the target of your rage is straight white cis men.

Then it’s okay when a friend talks about killing 1/3 of the country.

How is this different than how Germans talked about Jews—just before the Weapons Control Act of 1938? This is why we won’t be giving up our guns.

Marry or carry

Via email from Brian Keith:

Idecide

The set of potential mates which I might have an interest in is fairly small and, assuming they are all consensual, is no one’s business but mine and theirs. No politician has any moral high ground in deciding who I want to spend my life with.

And whether I want to carry a two shot derringer, a 9mm with a 21 round magazine (STI DVC Limited with 140mm magazines), or a five shot revolver is my choice. I know my situation and capability better than any politician. No politician has the moral authority to say I can or cannot carry a firearm to defend myself or other innocent people.

No politician has the moral authority to say I can or cannot marry or carry. If they insist they do then whatever “crime” occurs is on them. They created the crime. I did not commit a crime.

Leftism is, at its core, based upon the abject and unapologetic denial of observable reality.

They’re not just insane, they’re proudly insane. Point out their hypocrisy until Gabriel blows his horn, and it won’t affect them a bit. We’re dealing with people who have knowingly and willingly turned their backs on any form of logic and reason. The only reason they’re winning is that sane people haven’t stepped up and put them in the rubber room where they obviously belong.

It’s none of their business

Via email from Brian Keith:

Nearly all politicians are people who want to rule over other people. It should be no surprise that when they achieve power they want to exercise it. It is what gives meaning to their life even if it is none of their business what they want to control.

Don’t ever forget this telling insight into their minds:

If you put out a reg, it matters.  I think that’s really where the thrill comes from.  And it is a thrill; it’s a high… I love it; I absolutely love it.  I was born to regulate.  I don’t know why, but that’s very true.  So as long as I’m regulating, I’m happy.

Marthe Kent

This is why we have a constitution which enumerated the limited powers of the government. It was supposed to protect against this sort of crap. It hasn’t. There is no branch of government specifically tasked with arresting and prosecuting those who violate their oath of office. Hence, we ended up with a huge mess and in the middle of a (5th generation) civil war.

Quote of the day—Alan Korwin

Congrats to NRA experts on a tremendous plan for the schools — the left would have to show blatant hypocrisy and self-defeating behavior to turn this down. Schools need this, it can only help. The left may be inclined to fight it, solely because of its eminently qualified source, which would be an utter and dangerous shame.

[Alan usually has the anti-gun people figured out. This time he is thinking rationally and fails to predict their response correctly.

The left would have to show blatant hypocrisy and self-defeating behavior to turn this down”?

No. It would be self-defeating to them if school shootings stopped. School shootings are the absolute best tool they have in their fight against gun owners! The more the better! More money for their cause, more support for restrictive gun laws, because, “What we have isn’t working we need more restrictions on guns!”
