Democrats lie to hide their unpopular positions, like gun control (and more gun control). They lie to the people and then vote more towards their base once elected.
Republicans, on the other hand, lie in the opposite direction. They lie to their base, and then when elected, vote more like Democrats.
This tells us that the true “center” of political opinion lies to the right of how elected officials of both parties vote. They lie in the same direction.

Deception is the only way
I found this very interesting:
Gun control was supposed to be the issue of 2018.
Yet it has receded so far into the background of the midterm congressional elections that Everytown for Gun Safety, a major player in gun control, is spending its money on ads covering abortion, health care and the Republican tax bill — but nary a mention of assault rifles or bump stocks.
Apparently Everytown for Gun Safety recognizes that advocating for gun control is a losing strategy. So their response is to achieve their goals indirectly by helping politicians who hide their position on guns but will vote against gun owners when they get a chance.
When the only way people can get their way is through deception you know their intentions are evil.

Voters to decide fate of Washington’s gun control initiative this Nov.
[Read the article. Notice the complete lack of mention by Paolini for the right of the people to keep and bear arms? That is because he doesn’t care about your rights.
The “big thrust” is against “semi-automatic assault rifles”? Suppose this law were wildly successful and there were no more murders in Washington state committed with rifles of any type. How many lives would be saved compared to the murders committed with other weapons?
It turns out that in 2017 Washington had one murder attributed to the use of a rifle, 75 to the use of handguns, 36 to the use of a knife or cutting instrument, and 18 to hands, fists, feet, etc. This fact is from the 2017 FBI Uniform Crime Report.
So, how can Paolini believe restricting access to a subset of the rifles can “cut at some of the really big components” of “gun violence”? The only way this can be true is if he believes one is a “really big component” of 76. It is true that these type of people have serious problems with comprehending numbers, but is much more likely an alternate hypothesis is true.
Stephen Paolini is a liar and has complete disregard for the rights of others.
So, you have to ask yourself, what is his true motivation?

Trust your government
From Electronic Frontier Foundation Newly Released Surveillance Orders Show That Even with Individualized Court Oversight, Spying Powers Are Misused:
Rather than notifying the court that it had destroyed the communications it obtained without authorization, the NSA made an absurd argument in a bid to retain the communications: because the surveillance was unauthorized, the agency’s internal procedures that require officials to delete non-relevant communications should not apply. Essentially, because the surveillance was unlawful, the law shouldn’t apply and the NSA should get to keep what it had obtained.
And these are the people we supposedly should trust with our freedom?
Maybe someone else has some perspective on this…
I almost support the Brady Campaign
…the families sought to hold the FBI accountable for its failed background check on Dylann Roof, which allowed Roof to legally buy the handgun used in the Emanuel shooting.
In Tuesday’s filing, the Brady Campaign says U.S. District Judge Richard Gergel incorrectly interpreted federal gun law when he dismissed the Emanuel families’ lawsuit in June 2018.
I’m firmly opposed to mandatory background checks so I am not in agreement with the basic premise of their position but I am fully in support of the Brady Campaign suing the FBI. This diverts both Brady and FBI resources from attacking gun owners.
If Brady wins it means the FBI will increase expenditures on NICS to decrease the likelihood of being successfully sued in the future. Increasing the costs of NICS checks means the value of these checks will be more likely to be examined. Does our society “get it’s money’s worth” from this expenditure or would those resources be better spent elsewhere. For example, should that money be spent on keeping violent criminals in prison rather than in a futile attempt to prevent them from acquiring guns in a free society? Or, should that money be spent in police efforts to put into finding and convicting criminals quickly before they can commit multiple crimes?

purchase a used Browning BAR hunting rifle from a store that conducts a background check before selling it to him. The rifle is sighted in and his hunting trip is saved.

Law enforcement officers are also governed by this
completely undefined process.

legislature adds every person who has ever used any amount of anti-depression medication to the list of persons unable to legally own any firearms. Bob’s purchase of a rifle under I-1639 gave the state the means to circumvent HIPAA’s privacy protections and access his medical records at any point in the future. As a result of his brief anti-depressant use, all of Bob’s firearms are confiscated.
Another consequence of this is that a large number
of people battling depression avoid seeking help to deal with that depression and even suicidal thoughts. Some end up taking their own lives.

decided that it is now open season on gun owners and begin constant efforts to enact ever stricter gun laws, like California does. Washington state gun owners, used to a fairly stable set of laws, are left uncertain from one year to the next which of their guns will remain legal
– Some legislation is
passed without real feedback over a weekend, as was attempted in 2018.
– At the same time,
the gun owners who up to now have had a huge stake in obeying all laws conclude that there is no point in doing so.

Of course, the creators of this initiative view nearly all of this as features and not bugs. An increase in crime and chaos paves the way for more government infringement of our rights.
Vote NO on I1639 and ask your friends, relatives, and neighbors to vote no. Get materials to help get the word out.

Huffman’s rule of social interaction
A civil society is dependent upon not having runaway hostile emotions. You might get angry with your spouse, a co-worker, a neighbor, a political party or, on a global scale, another nation. In most cases these are bursts of anger that, when put into the larger perspective its not worth severing the relationship or escalating the hostilities. Everyone is going to have a better life if the parties can freely interact to the mutual benefit of everyone. If there is no mutually beneficial interaction at the current time that doesn’t mean that there won’t be such need in the future.
For example, suppose your neighbor’s dog sometimes poops in your yard. If you escalate the situation and you end up not being on speaking terms it going to be tough to help each other when you need to cover your windows with plywood to protect against a hurricane.
This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t put a stop to the neighbor’s kid torturing your cat or you finding a new job and telling your boss he is a jerk when you leave. There are times when you must take action to protect yourself.
I would like to express this philosophy more succinctly and refer to it in the future as Huffman’s rule of social interaction:
Never burn bridges.
Wait until your enemy is crossing it and then use explosives.

You want to advocate that tens of millions of Americans be made in to felons to be hunted by police, but you object to any of those people you would make into felons merely typing a reply to your advocacy of their demise?
That doesn’t sound smart, and it doesn’t sound well-educated.
How did the United States take land from the Native Americans? Part of it was by taking their guns first.
How did the Germans push the Jews in to the ghettos? Partly by taking their guns first.
How did the Turks exterminate so many Armenians? They took the Armenians’ guns first.
How did Mao kill tens of millions? Pol Pot? Stalin?
The history of gun confiscation is the history of marginalized groups being exterminated by the majority.
Just because you yourself have no such desire has no effect on what the people you give this power to will do.
To see just what a bad idea taking all the guns away is, let’s change out the groups you want to make defenseless, and see how it sounds:
No African Americans should be allowed to own guns.
No women should be allowed to own guns.
No single moms should be allowed to own guns.
No Jews should be allowed to own guns.
No LGBTQ+ people should be allowed to own guns.
Pretty ugly, right?
I hope you aren’t advocating that a gay person isn’t allowed to defend themselves from gay bashing.
