Gun Song: Powderfinger by Neil Young
Powderfinger by Neil Young was released in 1979 on the Rust Never Sleeps album. According to Infogalactic, it was ranked as one of Neil’s best songs by Rolling Stone. The lyrics are the posthumous narration of a young man who attempts to protect his family against an approaching gunboat. After initial indecision, he eventually takes action, and is ultimately killed.
Neil Young, of course, is a long-time Canadian singer-songwriter and musician with an extensive rock /folk / country catalog of songs performed and written.
Norwegian Border: No Swedes?
Interesting development with the Swedish problem. Norway is considering a bill to shut its border with Sweden if it collapses. This would be in defiance of international convention. I means that Norway is taking a serious look at the problem with their long-time neighbor and saying “Holy CRAP!” The bill hasn’t passed yet, but it has “broad support.” If it passes, will it be enough to wake up Sweden to the magnitude of its problem? I don’t know. There are already a number of town with more Arabic/ME men of military age than native Swedes, by 20% or more, and there are very few (relatively speaking) muslim women of similar age. That’s a disaster waiting to happen. Anyone who cannot see it must be very highly educated / indoctrinated, or really, REALLY stupid. If they can see it and want to do this whole immigration thing anyway, they are evil.
Casting
One of the things about making a movie is that you need actors. Once you have the script/story, you have to find people who have the appearance and skills to bring the character to life on the screen. You also need someone that is mentally stable enough to be reliable, which rules out a lot of the normal leftie applicants. Eventually we will need cast and extras, and expect to do most of the filming in the VA area. A master at work…
Separate for a moment the wisdom of the policy from the politics of the execution. I know most regular readers here think Trump’s 7-nation temporary incoming travel ban makes sense, even if it doesn’t go far enough, and it is certainly legal. Preaching to the coir and all that. But let’s look at the other side a moment, just how it was done, and what happened, what’s the fallout, and where do things go from here.
He issued an executive order that basically said “use this 2015 law Obama signed to prohibit travel from these problematic nations, and prohibit travel from these nations Obama designated as problematic.” The left totally loses their collective shit, judges in Seattle and elsewhere issue injunctions to halt it, the media melts down, paid protestors collect their paycheck, and it’s all literally worse than Hitler going into the Sudetenland (or it would be if the leftists knew what that was, but ya’ll know what I mean). It goes to the 9th Circuit, where a 3-judge panel uphold the stay. The media crows and dances about how they stuck it to the man! “well, crap!” was the common sentiment on the right.
So, now what? Trump had to have seen this coming, even though it’s really stupid and self-defeating.They – the left – walked right into the trap, and are now bragging about how tasty all the free food is. In 2013 Reid and the senate Democrats killed the filibuster for some sorts of things, like Federal appointments. People on the left raved about how brave it was, how the filibuster was dated, anti-democratic, etc.
Shoe, meet other foot. Two nominally R senators defected from the narrow majority to vote against Trump’s Sec of Ed choice, Betsy DeVoss, to make it a tie vote. The vote could be forced and cast because of the no-longer-applicable filibuster had been removed, so it only required a simple majority to call for a vote. VP Pence cast the tie-breaking vote in favor of DeVoss. In office only few weeks and he’s already breaking ties. First time it’s ever needed to be done in fact. Definitely a term in office that will need lots of popcorn.
Joe, is your brother planning on planting popping corn this next year? I think the market prices for it are likely to rise with this surge in demand, and saying I’m going to go eat pop-lentils gets me some strange looks.
The police will protect you
Watching a Stefan Molyneux video, he quoted note from a listener referring to gun-free zones and the Berkley riots over Milo:
“Give up your guns, they said. The police will protect you.”
Only if you are one of those that the police / state think are worth protecting.
Sobering thought when there is a transition of power from one party to another, and you realize there is another foot that might wear that jackboot you’d hope would step on the throat of your enemies.
But I bet a lot of leftists still won’t understand.
Options
Just had the movie rights to my book optioned. So now we start working to get the casting and promotions done so a good funding page (likely on GoFundMe) can be put together and production monies raised. If we hit the minimum goal, then he buys the movie rights and moves forward with starting to produce it. Because he’s a relatively small operation, and the book is long, the basic goal is to make just a portion of it, and make it well enough that it can act as a “prof of concept’ to raise enough money for more of it. That’s just a small part of the big picture (no pun intended), of course. When the promo trailer (a simple but scene to shoot) is ready I’ll let people know.
Lead Ammo ban
As a parting gift to the shooting community, the Community Organizer in Chief, BHO, had the US Fish and Wildlife issue a new regulation banning lead ammo on most Federal lands. All federal lands administered by the F&W, parks and refuges. With less than a day left in the outgoing administration. Yeah, he’s just that kind and considerate. But at least it’s easily undone, and it’s (yet one more) thing that highlights the contemptuous attitude of the regulatory masters.
Drain the swamp.
CRA – not tired of winning
This popped up on a couple of different sources at about the same time, not sure who was first. Likely the WSJ, as this ZeroHedge post cites it. Short version: when congress passes a law and the president signs it, it will often have an outline of what’s to be done, and it directs the appropriate agencies involved to write up the implementing regulations and guidelines. A three page law might have hundreds of pages of legalese added to the Federal Register. Heck, the entire edifice built on “title IX” is standing on a single sentence! Anyway, a law passed in 1996 called the Congressional Review Act requires that after the regulations are written they have to send a report to congress, where they must be voted up or down by simple majority vote within 60 days. Congress was trying to keep an out-of-control agency from getting too hog wild on the details that were delegated to them.
The clock stars ticking when the regulations are published, or when the report gets sent to congress, whichever is later.
Well, it seems that the last administration was a tad sloppy on their paperwork. They rarely sent a report to congress. Trump can direct any agency under his command (effectively all of them) to send a report to congress if they have not done so already. If it gets voted down, the law is on hold until they can put together regs that are acceptable to congress, and the next attempt at reg-writing cannot be to simply re-submit essentially the same thing again. So a whole bunch of junk passed in the last 8 years might be, ah, revisited.
Suddenly Trump’s statements about reducing regulation hugely doesn’t sound so absurd.

Gun Song – Battle of New Orleans
“Battle of New Orleans” by Johnny Horton is a classic “Americana” song. Quoting Infogalactic: “The Battle of New Orleans” is a song written by Jimmy Driftwood. The song describes the 1815 Battle of New Orleans from the perspective of an American soldier; the song tells the tale of the battle with a light tone and provides a rather comical version of what actually happened at the battle. Commemorative 45
Trump will, later today, become our 45th President. He’s a gun owner, and generally pro-gun as near as I can tell. I wonder how many variations of “Trump Commemorative 45” will be produced and offered if he starts living up to even a modest fraction of his hype / hope / potential? An ironically logo’ed 45 pistol suppressor after the Hear Protection Act is passed? All manner of revolvers and semi-autos, obviously. I’ve already seen a 1911 slide. What would you like to see, and be willing to pay a little extra for just to make it a little less PC, and a part of history? A .45-70 Govt? A .45 Colt? A 45 Trump Magnum? A 1911 long slide with “Trumpenator” on it? A slick-finished 45 ACP with “Teflon Don” on it?

Going on offense
The gun rights movement has largely been playing defense for a long time, with occasional and gradual wins here and there, now with increasing frequency in the last decade. But it’s always gotten bad press by the legacy media. There is hope that things will be going high-profile and on offense with the new administration.
The Hearing Protection Act of 2017 (HPA) was introduced January 9th. It would remove suppressors from being an NFA weapon with a tax stamp. It would also likely be a great business-stimulus. More here.
Of course, the legacy media claims it’s all about enabling hit-men and criminals. But then, accuracy was never really a priority with them.
Speculative thought
A thought occurred to me about all the Special Snowflakes in society today. Could it be in significant part the result of smaller families? In China the “One Child” policy has resulted in a generation plagued with “little emperors.” When you have a lot of children, even a good parent that loves all of them equally, and treats them all as fairly and equitably as possible will know they are not all truly equal, and not all as smart, or strong, or whatever, as anyone else. In short, you know some are more “valuable” or “expendable” on different measures because you confront it every day in your own home. Continue reading
They prove themselves unworthy
A thought occurred to me.
All the smartest people* in the nation -nay, the smartest people in the world- said two things over and over in 2016:
A) We plebs need to give more power and control to the government so all the really smart technocrats can make life better, more fair, safer, cleaner, more productive, and nicer for everyone because they were so smart and had all the data; and
B) Trump would never win.
It seems to me that (B) disproves the premise that they are the smartest people in the room, and further is a strong indicator that (A) should never be done because they just demonstrated they are clueless more often than not.
* we know they are the smartest people in the world because they tell us constantly.

Well, in spite of the election, everyone reading this made it to 2017. Let’s hope it keeps getting better, and the only melt-downs are leftie brains exploding as The Donald’s supporters can’t help but get tired from all the winning. Clean the guns, keep the powder dry, get some sleep, hug the kids, eat right, read a good book, walk the dog, plant a seed, support your friends, say something nice to the spouse/SO, and don’t take any BS.
