As I posted earlier, on Saturday Kim and I installed most of the hardware for a permanent Internet access point and weather station at the Boomershoot shooting line. I went back on Sunday to fix the wiring that jostled loose and verify the solar panel was charging the battery.
The path we had made was compact enough that I didn’t have to use snowshoes. I broke through maybe a half dozen times, but it was pretty easy walking considering the conditions. I have some more pictures which give some clues as to above average snow accumulation we have this year:
I did have to run back to the car just as I had almost arrived at the solar panel. A large pickup with a very large trailer filled with hay came down the road and couldn’t get past the narrow spot in the road my car had created. I backed down the hill to the driveway for the first house and got off the road far enough that the pickup could get by.
I found it interesting all the frost that had formed in the previous 17 hours:
The weather station was almost cartoon like with all the frost.
Both wind speed and direction sensors were non-functional because of all the frost.
This was the first time in many years when I went to Idaho and didn’t visit Mecca. Check out the bank of snow behind my car (Mecca is in the background).
Here is a close up of Mecca taken with my 300 mm lens then cropped to the interesting part. In the lower right corner is a picnic table.
This was the view from niece Lisa’s bedroom window.
Notice the depth of snow on the roof and on the deck?
The roads weren’t too bad, but before next winter I’m going to get some new tires for the snow. My current set has seen three winters now and they were having difficulty in the soft snow in the driveway to Doug and Julie’s place.

There used to be a home weather station about a mile from the Boomershoot site that was available on the Internet via Weather Underground. I would check the weather and know it was a very good representation of what was going on at my property. My phone app, Field Ballistics, automatically looks up the closest weather station to your shooting location and can feed that information, including the direction you are shooting, into your shooting solution, Having temperature, air pressure, and wind for when I was doing some shooting on site without getting out my thermometer, wind gauge, and air pressure meter was very cool.
A couple years ago the family with the weather station moved away and took the weather station with them. Brother Doug has a weather station about two miles away but he hasn’t connected it to the Internet and isn’t interested in doing that. I contemplated putting one up at Boomershoot Mecca but with all the trees around it the wind measurement would be wrong. I finally decided that I would put one at the Boomershoot shooting line. I needed to put in solar power and a permanent Internet connection there, but I decided it was worth it.
Yesterday Kim and I did most of the work. I accidently left a critical part in Bellevue so it is not online yet but it’s close enough that it will be a short job the next time I visit. This is the pictorial story of putting up the weather station.

To be fair to Biden:
In his remarks, Biden praised Obama for serving the nation with dignity and insisted that he was not worthy of the honor.
“I don’t deserve this,” the vice president said repeatedly.
Biden was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, in part, for attempting to dramatically infringe upon our freedom.
This is like something from an Ayn Rand story where incompetent villains give each other awards. This cheapens the award to the point of making it a joke. But, I suppose it’s entirely in character with Obama getting the Nobel Peace prize.
Although I can’t imagine the tarnish on the award being removed for at least a generation Trump could polish a portion of it and troll the enemies of freedom by giving the award to Alan Gura, Neal Knox (posthumously), Alan Gottlieb, and/or Wayne LaPierre.
It’s hard to argue with willful ignorance. And I no longer try. I have come to the conclusion that leftists are intellectually impenetrable.

We brought this action on behalf of the plaintiffs to establish that the state’s restrictions on the possession and carrying of firearms by foster parents is unconstitutional under both the Second and Fourteenth amendments. We’re delighted that the judge will allow our action to go forward because it is important to establish that people do not surrender their Second Amendment rights in order to become foster parents. We’re in court to make sure that the state cannot discriminate against foster parents who merely wish to exercise the rights we’ve restored in Illinois.

FED. COURT ALLOWS CHALLENGE TO PROCEED AGAINST ILLINOIS FOSTER PARENT RULES
[Illinois prohibits foster parents from possessing firearm. The lawsuit alleges the state is denying the foster parents their civil rights under color of law. I’m almost certain this will mean that if SAF and the parents win then the state will be required to pay SAF and the parents for their legal expenses. I just wish it would also mean proof beyond a reasonable doubt that state officials had violated 18 USC 242.
If you squint at the situation just right you can make the case we should be thanking Illinois for offering us this, almost free, low hanging fruit. It should be a relatively easy case to win and every win we get creates more case law which can then be used as leverage in more difficult to win cases.—Joe]

[Read the whole thing. Take your blood pressure meds before you start. This is especially true if you have, or have had, a security clearance.
It is understandable though. Think of it from the point of view of FBI Director James Comey or Attorney General Loretta Lynch at that time. Even if you remove the possibility of Arkancide it was going to be difficult for them to charge Clinton without having extremely strong moral character.
It looked like Clinton was a shoe-in to win the election. If they charged her and she still won the country would have a complex, highly emotional, problem to solve. Riots would be likely and property and lives may have been lost. Or, quite likely, Obama would have just pardoned her and she became president anyway. Imagine the career options they would have had with President Clinton as their boss.
If, after being charged, Clinton lost the election Comey and Lynch would have been blamed for the loss. Then they, and probably their children, would have been in fear for their lives from the angry and violent left for a decade or more. The country would have been even more divided than it is now.
So, I can see why Comey might have just decided the best of all the bad options was to let the voters decide and risk letting a known criminal become president. I don’t think I would have chosen that option but it’s hard to say until you are forced to make the decision. And it is entirely possible Comey and/or Lynch could see Arkancide as a high probability event in their futures.—Joe]
As a general principle, you should assume that any weapon not yet banned by left wing state laws is so merely due to an oversight.
