Quote of the Day
So the idea here is that the dominance in the Academy of skeptical and irrationalist epistemologies provides the academic Left with a new strategy. Confronted by ruthless logic, harsh evidence, they have a solution: “That’s only logic and evidence. Logic and evidence are subjective. You can’t really PROVE anything. FEELINGS are deeper than logic, and my feelings say Socialism.”
That’s my second hypothesis about the origins of Postmodernism. I call it the Kierkegaardian hypothesis, that Postmodernism is the crisis of faith of the academic Left. Its epistemology justifies taking a personal leap of faith in continuing to believe your Socialist ideals.
Communism is no longer an economic theory. It has failed utterly at that. It’s now a religion. And it’s proselytized in our education systems.

Unfortunately, I am of the opinion this change does little, if anything, to make it less destructive. Politics have been an emotional team sport for a long time. Team communism will lose a few supporters, but they will pick up others. And those they pick up will be the type of people who thrive on strong emotions. Seeing those that opposed them piled up in a ditch will only give them a thrill and the wish to see more dead non-believers.
Indeed. Communism, like warmism, is a cult religion, complete with its very own Inquisition and Index Librum Prohibitorum.
“Communism is no longer an economic theory. It has failed utterly at that. It’s now a religion. And it’s proselytized in our education systems.”
Besides being a crime against humanity.
It always was about a child-like emotional response to everything it looks at. It’s emotional retardation. The intellect grows, but the emotional responses are stuck at that of a 13 year old.
Thus, the reason even very high IQ people completely miss the illogic of their own actions.
Economics is what gets pointed at a lot because that was the attack vector most used for communist take-overs.
(Your being mean to me, and mom says you have to share everything with me. Just wait till I’m mom. You’ll get yours then!)
In America race is the excuse being used. But has anyone else noticed that the biggest commies in the world are all billionaires?
It’s not about economics, it’s about manipulation.
Money, power, control. Use any two, to get the third. And it’s all easier to accomplish through emotions.
I would disagree that it is a religion also. (Although Kevin might be just using that word, for lack of a better descriptor.) Religions can be used in many ways for good and bad.
But communism is a brainwashing for destruction only. It was solely created to destroy everything around it. It can be used no other way.
I call it satan’s political system for that reason. No matter the excuses given. It wants everything destroyed, and you-all dead.
“Seeing those that opposed them piled up in a ditch will only give them a thrill and the wish to see more dead non-believers.”
And the useful idiots. They generally get “ditched” also.
Communism kills as many of their own, as they do everyone else.
Communism was never an economic theory. Theories have logical and factual support (read: they make sense and reflect the real world). At best, communism was an economic hypothesis, and as it has been thoroughly and repeatedly debunked and disproven, it is now properly classed as a failed economic hypothesis.
There are people who still believe it, but there are people who still believe the Earth is flat, too. Both do some fascinating mental gymnastics to hold onto their beliefs.
As Kevin at TSM points out, it is a beautiful idea. Everyone equal, nobody wanting for anything they need. “From each according to his ability, to each according to his need,” is beautifully poetic.
But it does not work and cannot work because it doesn’t account for human nature. Nobody is willing to work entirely for the benefit of others (there’s always someone with a greater need than you — always — and they will receive the fruits of your labor), and nobody would work at all if they can get others to provide for them. The entire system has perverse incentives fundamentally written into it and trusts humans to be 100% altruistic. That’s just not how humans or the world are.
That’s also why any communist society that lasted for more than a decade, did so because they had a “Strongman” on top willing to use a government monopoly of brutal violence to force the people to feed their labor into a system that wasn’t providing for their needs.
If an economic system requires massive government violence to perpetuate itself, it is by definition a failed system.
Fascism ( a heresy of socialism) had all that too and it didn’t last nearly as long. There is something else going on here and I blame Rousseau.
