Quote of the day—Maj Toure @MAJTOURE

Currently, folks can be locked up for feeding homeless, stashing rain water, growing plants, recording public servants and owning guns. What a time to be alive.

[Look on the bright side. There is lots of opportunity for improvement because there is so much low hanging fruit.

Or is that, “Fruits that should be hanged”?—Joe]

  1. Maj Toure has some good stuff out there.

    Speaking of fruits, I’m reminded of “You will know them by their fruits”, meaning that words are one thing, actions or works are another, and the results, the repercussions, the effects, or “fruits”, may be something yet different altogether. Here’s the related text;

    “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore by their fruits you will know them.”. — Matthew, chapter 7 NKJV

    It’s all parable of course, for the better understanding of a people of a certain time and place, and yet it gets the point across to us in 21st Century America quite well I think.

    Low “fruits that should be hanged”, or trees bearing bad fruit, which will be cut down and thrown into the fire? One is an Idea of what justice might, could, or should look like, and the other is a declaration of what justice will be.

    • @Lyle,

      In IT security, the idea of “low hanging fruit” is either problems that can be solved/identified with little effort, or vulnerabilities that can be exploited with limited skill/resources on the part of an attacker.

      Joe was using the phrase in the first meaning.

      Security professionals work to make sure their site has none of the latter in order to avoid attracting attention. All routeable IP addresses on the internet get probed occasionally by bots looking for low hanging fruit vulnerabilities.
