Singlehandedly is a big exaggerating. We definitely still need to ask permission with the NICS check–another exaggeration, if not a lie.
But it is true that he is the probably the most pro-Second Amendment U.S. president ever. He has done a lot. The SCOTUS appointments. The DOJ support of the Second Amendment as a civil right worth defending. All great stuff. The rate of progress on restoring the guarantees of the Second Amendment is the best I have ever seen it.

I think that’s also an exaggeration – the Founding Fathers were definitely more pro-gun rights than Trump, and some of them were Presidents.
But the most in living memory? Yeah, I think there’s a very solid case for that.
Politicians are all self aggrandizing windbags, including Trump. He had a severe case of it before entering politics. His entire adult life has been spent hogging various spotlights from professional wrestling to beauty contests to “reality” TV shows he has repeatedly demonstrated that he’s a world class blow hard.
Having said that, he genuinely seems to care for his employees and repeatedly demonstrates a love for the USA and willingness to fight, fight, fight to preserve it in some semblance of what our founders created instead of trying to destroy it so it can be rebuilt into a socialist Hell hole. All in all he’s been the best President of the last 60+ years on domestic policy and making effective progress toward rolling back unconditional statist power grabs. His foreign policy on the other hand leaves much to be desired.
While apt for almost all other politicians, for Trump replace “windbag” with “professional promoter”, thus the over the top “larger than life” version of him we see in the spotlight. The market taught him to act that way to promote his projects because it worked.

Eh, his foreign policy has still been pretty good. This bit with Iran… it’s not looking great, but it’s not over yet.
The Abraham Accords were the biggest breakthrough for peace in the middle east since… um… well, arguably any time in the modern era.
His handling of North Korea also made everyone who worked on that before look like idiots.
Even if this Iran thing doesn’t work out great (and getting the world to bypass the Straight of Hormuz is a good thing, so it’s at least got that going for it), his overall record is still better than a large majority of Presidents since WWII.
Within five years, there will be pipelines in place which will carry 90% of the non-Iranian oil which currently passes through Hormuz.

Exactly. This has defanged Iran’s primary leverage over the rest of the world. It’s a very good thing.
Judgement can vary on if it is worth the pricetag, of course, but that’s a different level of discussion than “is it good?”

Well, sure, but not the real point – what’s important is no (or extremely few) tankers in the Straight of Hormuz for Iran to threaten.
Agreed, in the near future, all Persian Gulf countries – except Iran – will ship their oil via pipeline to other ports.
Claim some credit for yourself and others in the movement. Trump is not a gun person and his elevation of the issue is rooted in what the base demands. I do appreciate his actions, especially the DoJ.
At the Federal level, we’ve seen great progress. I’m hoping that in the somewhat near future, Washington State will rejoin the United States. Just saw the best price ever – essentially half price – for a Kel-Tec bullpup shotgun. “Not available in WA” popped up in the online shopping cart. Whoa! Look at this, a great price on a Mossberg Aftershock! “Not available in WA” says the pop up. Spare mags for my Hi-Power, fuggedaboutid.
In short – my state, which I used to brag about to others for it’s somewhat rare Shall Issue policy when I moved here in 1979 – now sucks in firearms policy. I hope SCOTUS takes the Mjollnir of Justice to the assault weapons and standard mag bans, and soon.
The single biggest obvious self-contradictory thing in gun control, as best I can tell, is their demand that guns are for “the militia”, but then *at the same time*, banning the guns for… the militia.
Pick a lane, you know? It drives me crazy that so many people refuse to even SEE that.
Not that I don’t get irritated by the same exact thing, but… it is irrational to expect people to be rational.
I do understand that fully rational is too much to expect from most (maybe even all), but thinking it’s unreasonable to say “2+2 = 3” and “2+2 = 5” AT THE SAME TIME isn’t asking for people to be fully rational about much of anything, just have the intelligence of a much-below-average 2nd grader.
It is my belief that a large percentage of the population are incapable of truly rational thought. The think that rational thought is having a reason for their beliefs. In their minds, as long as there is a reason, it is rational. “Weapon of war! Ban it. Only militias can have guns, no guns for you.” This is “rational” in their mind.
Proving yet again – Gun control – it’s not about the guns. It’s about the CONTROL.
Trump isn’t in love with the Second Amendment, but unlike most Republican politicians, he is capable of realizing that it’s a potent issue that gives Republicans probably 20 points in elections that they wouldn’t have otherwise.
The GOP establishment seems to have a bizarre belief that they need to “distance” themselves from those fascist Neanderthals who actually want the means of protecting their families. I remember right after the Sandy Hook massacre–which conveniently took place right after the 2012 election…hmmmm–there was this sense of almost joy among those assholes that FINALLY they could cut loose from this issue. John Weaver, McCain’s gay pedophile buddy, was calling the NRA a bunch of lunatics, and Patrick Toomey, a favorite of the National Review, actually introduced gun control legislation–which failed. And of course John Cornyn by supporting Biden’s gun control “distanced” himself from 2A activists, and ultimately from his Senate seat.
So basically Trump is just doing what any rational politician who wanted to win elections would do. The American people love the Second Amendment, and he’s giving them what they want.
