The headline is concerned with abolishing the ATF. Slinking into view with a single low-key sentence is a WMD against Federal gun laws.

I think it is unlikely to pass on its own this year and or even the foreseeable future. But if Musk and Ramaswamy trim two trillion from the budget via the newly created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), then I could see the ATF and the NFA as part of the eliminated waste.

This would result in my vision of seeing machine gun competitions in high schools by 2032 being realized.

  1. Over a decade ago I attended an event put on by a School of Law that featured Alan Gura. Gura is a very brilliant dude that is rather Libertarian in his views and was riding high after the Heller case.
    An audience member asked him when the NFA would be repealed. Gura said Machine Guns we’re such a lightning rod over the battle for gun rights that, in his mind, would never be available to the public and we shouldn’t waste time, money or political capital on such an unattainable goal.

    My, how things have changed in a dozen years.

  2. We should stick with just getting rid of the ATF. Lots of reasons and abuses to point at for their demise.
    Then do what the communists do. Slip in a one sentence line into a bill that repeals the 34′ NFA, and 68′ GCA. And reaffirms the 2A as the law of the land.
    Poof, nothing to enforce, and no one to enforce it.

    Side note.
    Customs in Nogales just busted an RPG going INTO Mexico. So, those weapons are already here.
    I presume the cartel ran short, and needed it down there?
    Or did it come out of a Chinese con-ex box stashed in America for command and control when things go bad?
    A sample for the cartels to test and play with?
    Remember the 10,000 AR-15 full auto kits customs busted in NC, from China 10 years ago?
    Someone is tuning up for something.

  3. Even if NFA 34 were repealed, if 18 US Code Chapter 44 § 922(o), the ‘Hughes Amendment’ isn’t also, nothing will actually be accomplished past unrestricting the MGs made before then.

  5. Baby steps….lets see if we can get suppressors removed from the NFA. After that we can try and take it another step.
