Demanding Discrimination

Quote of the Day

If we treat them equally, the result must be inequality… the only way to place them in an equal position would be to treat them differently.

F.A. Hayek

On X, this quote has morphed into:

In order to make people equal, you have to treat them differently. If you treat people alike, the result is necessarily inequality.

More quotable and easier to understand, but not quite accurate.

Useful ammo when dealing with people demanding reparations, affirmative action, DEI, etc. The point being is that if they insist upon equality, they are demanding discrimination.

  1. Calling that “equality” is BS, even too much for the left most of the time – hence the term “equity”, which they are using, essentially, as “equality of outcome (according to us)”.

  2. They are fine with discrimination … as long as it’s the “right kind” of discrimination.

“Equality” — a.k.a. “equality of opportunity” — treats everyone the same, and individual and demographic-group outcomes vary widely based on a LOT of factors. But because outcomes vary, the hucksters will see “racism” in every step, even if race isn’t one of those factors that strongly affects outcomes.

“Equity” — a.k.a. “equality of outcome” — can be achieved two ways (one or both): give a hand or head-start to those likely to struggle, and/or hold back or handicap those likely to succeed or excel. Both of those necessarily require some measure of discrimination, and when the hucksters equate race as a short-hand for the likelihood of struggling or excelling, then race becomes a factor on which to discriminate.

And the hucksters will ALWAYS decide that racial discrimination is fine as long as it’s against white people. IOW, making things harder for white people — and only white people — is the “right kind” of discrimination.

So for all their talk about how racial discrimination is bad, the truth is that they are some of the most racially discriminatory humans on the planet. But they only discriminate the “right” way — against white people — so it’s okay when they do it.

    • “Equality” – aka – “equality before the law” – is the ONLY “equality” that is a virtue.

“Equality of opportunity” and “equality of outcome” are both the VIOLATION of the individual’s right to his OWN life and his OWN effort – ie the treatment of the individual as the PROPERTY of the State, to be disposed of as IT sees fit, to satisfy ITS desires. In other words, they are both EVIL.

    • Yes, especially since Vonnegut was commie to the core and basically hated America and the West.

  4. 1 – Except for ‘before the law’, equality is NOT a virtue.
2 – Equality before the law is what they INTENTIONALLY seek to DESTROY.
