A Little Risk, a Lot of Gain

Quote of the Day

Several niche, left-leaning gun advocacy groups said that since the killing of Alex Pretti by federal agents in Minneapolis, they can hardly keep up with the surging demand for firearms training.

Leftist and liberal gun groups are seeing a rush of new members

Surely, everyone can see this will result in making it easier to eliminate the infringements on our 2nd Amendment rights. Some people will be concerned of increased odds for violent civil war. What they probably don’t realize is that once someone becomes a gun owner there is increased rate of those people leaving the political left.

I see this as a minor increase in risk with tremendous potential for good.

  1. As with their view of all natural rights, the left believe it should be enjoyed only by them.

Firearm ownership will be restricted to the correct thinking people
The same holds true for speech and assembly.

  2. Well, the eponymous inspiration for the John Brown Gun Club deliberately set out to provoke a civil war and he succeeded. You may have a bit of normalcy bias here.

    • Those are excellent points.

What may be different in this case is that the RKBA was not really in question 167 years ago. Today it is. New gun owners will have contact with a different set of people as they exercise that right. When the leftist gun owners start associating with non-leftist in the gun culture they tend to become “woke” in a different fashion.

From your lips to God’s ear, but I think you’re being overly optimistic.

    • You are correct, I have a strong tendency to be an optimist. Let’s watch and see what the trend is. Do tensions continue to rise or do they fall? We should know in a few months. Summers are when tension/protests usually increase. So, I expect some “natural” increase. If the increase is small or there is a decrease by early August perhaps my hypothesis is correct. If things get really spicey, then I will retire to my underground bunker in Idaho and admit I was wrong.

  4. Mr. Huffman:

You noted in a comment above that, “New gun owners will have contact with a different set of people as they exercise that right. When the leftist gun owners start associating with non-leftist in the gun culture they tend to become “woke” in a different fashion.”

I regret to inform you that, for the overwhelming majority of them, this will NOT turn out to be the case. My wife (Mrs. Blackwing? BlackwingToo? She doesn’t post comments) has told me many times about her collectivist friend, who goes to what the Mrs. refers to a “Commie Camp”; they have a bunch of different actual names that continuously change. Along with communist indoctrination and propaganda workshops they also do firearms training at some of them This isolation (Balkanization that the collectivists love) is what will prevent the violence-inclined Dem-wingers to avoid contamination with logic and reason, or facts and data, but still allow them to be semi-trained in firearms usage.

Bear in mind that every Communist revolution STARTED by encouraging private firearms ownership, but that once they had gained power and control (their only true goal) they eliminated private ownership to the fullest extent possible for them.
