  1. Nice to hear a sheriff ready to enforce the rules of a polite society.
    Long past due.
    At this point the communists are looking for a martyr to base their revolution on. And open season should start shortly after they get one.
    The real interesting question will be in the recovery. After this whole thing is said and done.
    Will we be living in a society that has Tom Homans army of enforcers ruled by technocratic busybodies?
    Cause few politicians in history have been able to resist power when it’s available to them.
    And by the time this is all over the high-minded ideals of the constitution could be pretty much gone.
    The danger of becoming that which you have warred against in order to win is an ever-present reality.
    No matter that now. We will see if the commies truly are stupid enough to throw water on the hot oil.
    Till then, one might want to heed the famous words of old Remus, and “Stay out of crowds.”

MTHead hits the nail on the head with: “Few politicians in history have been able to resist power when it’s available to them.” The republican purge (and now loyalty test requirement for government jobs) is a symptom of a party drunk with power, and happy to do whatever it wants regardless of the law.

    Where MTHead gets it wrong is “ready to enforce the rules of a polite society.” Unilateral escalation of violence isn’t covered by the rules of polite society, or even impolite society. If throwing a brick at a shield-carrying, armor-wearing police officer (i.e. an act that’s non-lethal to the target) justifies an escalation to lethal force, that same logic works elsewhere. For example this morning it’s now coming out that two Democratic reps in Minnesota have been shot and killed in their homes (along with their spouses) by some MAGA nutjob who decided that he needed to help Dear Leader in his quest to purge the country of bad people. The threat of their existence was enough to warrant lethal force. The killer most likely figured that, like January 6 participants who wounded police officers, Dear Leader would pardon them for their actions because they’re “doing what’s best for the country,” and because hypocrisy and double-standards are the new order of the day under the MAGA party.

    The rhetoric of “we’re the good guys, and they’re evil” has been used throughout history to justify atrocities at mass scale, and has consistently led to the collapse of the societies in which it was used by those in power. You can’t both say “we’re the party of polite society” and also say “the other side are monsters who need to be killed” and not expect everything to burn. Pick a lane.

    • The sheriff did not say throwing a brick at a shield carrying police officer would result in lethal force. He said, “If you throw a brick, a firebomb, or point a gun at one of our deputies…” The context is clearly a rioter using lethal force. A brick at an unshielded person or even at the back side of a person using a shield is clearly lethal force.

      None of the articles I have read say two Democratic representatives were killed. Only one. See for example this article
      which is the best description I have found.

      While a “MAGA nutjob” is a reasonable hypothesis that is far from proven at this time. You continue on presuming you can read the mind of the attacker. I have serious doubts about your ability to do this.

      Other than that you have some good points. But they are diluted by your misrepresentations and exaggerations.

        • A stack of “No Kings” fliers were found in the vehicle used (not clear if owned) by the suspect, as well as a manifesto and a list of further targets.

          Does that change your opinion of your odds?

          • Not a lot of libs starting businesses as Praetorian Guards, and as I understand it all his targets were democrats. There’s the possibility of a false flag, of course, where he’s a lib martyring some other libs in the hopes of starting a violent conflict, but Occam’s razor says that’s probably not what we’re looking at. Time will tell.

    • Except he wasn’t a MAGA shithead, dipshit. He was a former Walz appointee, killing a Democratic rep who dared to cut off funding to illegal aliens. His car contained a list of Republican and Democrat officials he wanted to eliminate, and was also stuffed with No Kings flyers. Republicans don’t kill people – it’s liberal shitheads who embrace that.

    -Murdered a healthcare CEO
    -Murdered two Israeli diplomats
    -Firebombed Tesla dealerships
    -Firebombed Jewish demonstrators
    -Burned Los Angeles
    And when another violent attack occurs some fools immediate thought is must be MAGA!

    • “Burned Los Angeles?” Dude. Hyperbole much? Not only were the protests not in Los Angeles the city, they were in a tiny portion of the city of Paramount where they were actually conducted (which I will grant is in the Los Angeles basin). Most of Los Angeles didn’t notice. Ask them.

      That’s beside the point, but it’s just so hyperbolic I had to point it out. Anyway.

      In the case today the targets were all democrats. So logically the assailant would be someone who *isn’t* a democrat. Having that as an immediate thought isn’t reactionary, it’s pretty straightforward logic.

      But hey, we’ll see. We’re gonna know a lot about him soon enough.

          • I look forward to seeing evidence of Christian influence at Microsoft, Amazon, Boeing, Google, Facebook, and all of Silicon Valley for the last 50 years.

            • I don’t think there was much, since all those companies are west coast companies where the evangelical nutjobs don’t have much sway, and the state governments have held off federal incursions up to this point. That seems to be changing now that the feds have decided states do not in fact have rights and need to do as they’re told, hence the national guard being sent to Paramount (again…not L.A.).

              I do particularly enjoy (in a sad, vaguely nauseous way) the meme with pictures of Kristi Noem from the Biden years talking about how important states’ rights are and how she’s not going to let the feds boss them around, and of her now talking about how California needs to shut up and do what the feds tell them to. It’s sortof the perfect encapsulation of Republican hypocrisy now that they have power.

      Perhaps I am not understanding your point quite right. Are you saying that if I leave my door unlocked, then wake up in the night to the screams of my grandchildren being murdered by a group of thugs, and I shoot them all the thugs dead, I should be charged with murder because I left the door unlocked?
