Democrats can be unintentionally hilarious sometimes. Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.) reposted a chart on X Tuesday claiming housing prices are “the most unaffordable in history,” and that it was Trump’s fault.
There was just one huge problem.
The chart Newsom shared showed that the housing affordability gap actually widened during Joe Biden’s presidency, and X users noticed almost instantly, flooding his replies with screenshots of the very data he’d just posted as though it helped his argument. It didn’t take long for the pile-on to turn Newsom’s own post into a meme about his reading comprehension.
But the funny thing about it is that Democrats keep doing this. In July 2025, the Democratic National Committee posted a chart that they thought proved grocery prices were spiraling out of control in Trump’s second term.
The chart told a different story. It showed a huge spike under Biden. The DNC had unwittingly undermined its own attack on Trump. Social media users mocked the party within hours, dissecting the chart line by line, forcing the DNC to quietly delete the post… not that that stopped us from making fun of them anyway.

That is just the beginning. There is much more complete with the actual charts.
It is not limited to charts. It is not just mathematics. It is not just arithmetic. There is evidence to indicate they don’t understand numbers.
And yet, for a time, they seemed to be an unstoppable political force.
Inability to read graphs (which is what this actually was) is not limited to leftists. Any time you see a graph with an origin that isn’t zero, some one is trying to bullshit you. It may just be the graphics program which defaults to clickbait or it could be deliberate on the part of the person pushing the graph. As for actual charts, anything that doesn’t have the formulas live is also a strong candidate for BS. This, of course, is impossible or at least cumbersome in print so if you are doing anything serious, insist on the electronic version with the formulas visible.
Do you ever get complaints about your temperature graphs with the origin at absolute zero and time of the creation of the universe?

No, because that is ridiculous. Most no-zero origin graphs are intended to deceive by exaggerating change.
Modifying the values on the axes isn’t necessarily meant to bullshit, but makes short-term and minimal-change distinctions more apparent.
Over the long run, we’re all dead, so we want our graphs to reveal what our minds may have been blind to.
And scale.
The scale of the chart / graph / “justifying photograph” matters.
Until the voting process is cleaned up in US elections, requiring a government issued photo identification in order to vote and eliminating or severely restricting mail in ballots the Democrat party is LIKELY to fraud themselves into once again being a nearly unstoppable political force.
The only time Democrats are hilarious is when they are lying on their backs with blood bubbling out of their mouths.
Your sample of Democrats must be over sampled in maximum security prisons.
You know, they are overrepresented in prisons.
Had that exact issue (reading a chart wrong) with John around here a while back… that weird “heat map” thing that was allocating “care” units or whatever it called them.
He complained that we were reading the chart wrong while making obviously factually wrong claims about the chart, and STILL claiming moral superiority, of course (some variation of “we just care about more stuff”).
Occasionally, it could be funny. Consistently, from an entire chunk of the electorate (and much more so their party leaders), the funny has long since been used up and it’s just left with some combination of “tiresome” and “enraging” (especially when it’s done on purpose as a form of deception and misleading).
Da Dems are funny. Just not “funny ha-ha.”
