  1. As Stalin said, one death is a tragedy. One million deaths is a statistic. The kind of killing perpetrated by private actors, while a tragedy, pales beside the killing perpetrated by governments. And even among the private sector perps, firearms are not the most dangerous instruments. 9-11 is the obvious case in point but in smaller scale cases bombs or a simple can of gas are much more dangerous. To this day, the worst school massacre in US history (1927 Bath Township) was done with bombs by a school board member. He was acting in his personal capacity rather than his official one but he did use his official status to gain access to plant the bombs. He later targeted rescue workers with a car bomb.
    The Happy Land nightclub killings were done with a can of gas and killed 87. OKC was a truck bomb. Both caused more deaths than any shooting incidents.

    • I have made the case that even mass shootings, even SCHOOL shootings, act as a “pressure release valve” to prevent the kinds of significantly worse actions (bombs, fires) that kill more people.

      It’s not a FUN case to make, and certainly, I would like to prevent mass shootings, as well, but if one really wants to kill a lot of people, mass shootings are largely not very good at it (that guy in Vegas shooting a machine gun from a hotel into a music event with a large crowd is the only significant competitor in the body-count department, but even that was a very, very special situation… and has never been explained very well to the public, either, as it had *multiple* bits of oddness around it that the government largely just glossed over… and it was odd how the media moved on from it quickly, as well, compared to much lesser events).

I propose a federal law that any government official (federal, state, or local) that introduces/endorses a law limiting US citizens from owning firearms, ammunition, etc… immediately lose their own 2nd amendment rights, any government provided security, and the ability to hire private security that utilize any type of firearms (including off-duty law enforcement).

Are you ignorant of the paperwork and record-keeping requirements to buy a pistol.? Actually, please do not answer that. Just ride off into the sunset like a good former President should.

    Dear Billy, I see you haven’t heard of William Pitt the Younger and his famous speech from 1783, “Necessity is the creed of tyrants and the plea of slaves.”

    It’s really hard to admire people who are so poorly educated, no matter how firm a handshake and hearty backslap they have with their mellifluous voice.
