This is a not-insignificant reason we have generationally lost the war on guns on America. In the anti-police peak-woke era, many criminal justice reformers turned against gun control. That hasn’t really reversed in these circles.
Gun culture has fully won.
The argument of the NRA is gun control-libs are fools, because they don’t understand there’re many legitimate reasons why Americans have a right to own guns, without restrictions.
Once you have public defenders in progressive cities making the exact same argument, we’ve lost.

I would not say we have fully won. I would say that we are on the offense on all fronts and a win is ours for the taking. There are still lots of ways to lose if we get some really bad luck or we make a major error.
My biggest concern is pushing the Overton Window too fast and the pearl-clutchers are able to gain some traction with people who have not been moving forward with our progress.
We really need to get mainstream culture to move with our Overton Window. Take a newbie to the range. Bring up your recent gun competition experiences when someone at work asks about your weekend. Maybe consider wearing NRA, SAF, CCRKBA, JPFO (bumper sticker with “All in favor of gun control raise your right hand” with an image of Hitler), GOA (includes socks!), and/or FPC (some particularly bold and entertaining stuff), branded clothing, use a branded mug, or put their bumper stickers on your vehicle.
I recall reading an amicus brief by Bronx public defenders (that might be their formal name, capitalized) describing how prosecutors and judges rubber-stamp defendants in NYC as soon as a gun is involved.
It’s not like these lawyers are smelling money.
There is really a two track system in place. 12-20 states get ever more repressive and nullify or evade the Supreme Court decisions we all celebrate. The rest of the country gets more free by the year. Someday, the Democrats will take power again (and there are no moderate Democrats) and then the 12-20 states will be empowered again and the heavy Federal hand will come down on the rest.
I agree. I fully support ending the restrictions on handguns, suppressors, SBRs, and SBSs, but I think some on our side go too far when they push for “all arms” to be legalized. Do we really want people to be able to buy manpad antiaircraft missiles, hand grenades, and claymores? One incident, such an a downed passenger jet with 300 passengers, could easily reverse many of our recent gains.
We can defend our families and our country with small arms.

At the time of the founding and the Constitution, arguably the most powerful single weapon in the world was the “ship of the line”.
They had no problem with private ownership of ships of the line.
Not sure what else to say on that.
Look at what happened when Roe was overturned. The pro-life side was completely unprepared, and as a result many states enshrined a right to abortion in their state constitutions. If we push for cannons and manpads, there will be a similar backlash.
Women are more than 50% of the electorate – they’re eventually going to get what they really, really want, and unfortunately, that seems to be the right to kill the unborn.
There’s no question that there was privately owned artillery during the Revolutionary War.
I’m with you. We’ve made progress I wouldn’t have thought possible over the past few year but we are a long way from winning. I won’t waive that flag at least until the repeal of the Hughes Amendment. But a few years ago the idea that there’d be a zero transfer tax on Suppressors, Short Barrel Shotguns, and Short Barrel Rifles and a chance they’d soon be able to be sold on a 4473 was unthinkable.
As long as gun grabbers exist we have not and never will have “won”. For pro 2A people it is a NEVER ENDING BATTLE because the evil left will NEVER give up or go away and they will NEVER cease trying to disarm their intended slaves.
