Uvalde was an outlier but the average police response time is 6 minutes after they get the 911 call which also takes time. That is enough time to kill people at the double digit level and wound more. Ask them how many more bereaved mothers they would like and how they would propose to prevent that. Ask them how all the gun control we (and others) have would prevent this.
The reason two recent terrorist attacks (Michigan and Virginia) only resulted in a total of one fatality is that both had actual first responders: people on site, willing and able to respond with adequate violence to stop the attack. In the VA case amazingly enough that involved people armed only with a knife (and, obviously, serious balls).
The “second responders” were on site quickly, but if the real first responders had not been there, as is the case far too often, the results would obviously have been far worse. Uvalde is a classic example, but there are many more.
When people talk about disarming civilians, this is what the are pushing for.
You are completely correct here. This is why I now say that the true “First Responders ” are the people AT THE SCENE who think to themselves, “Holy Shit — This is happening NOW.” Their knowledge. training and preparation is key. The people who hate the idea of armed citizens protecting themselves recognize this need when they tell you how to be prepared for a fire, flood, or Earthquake and say you need food, water and disaster equipment on hand. Yet they cannot reason from those situations to, apparently, any disaster created by the evil people do.
Thomas Sowell called this “First Order Reasoning.”
I believe that it was Robert Heinlein who said that such people (and we have more every year) cannot reason from A to B to C. They get the A to B part ok, but they stand at the line between B and C and cannot make that last step. It might be an uncrossable chasm for them. They can see C, but just cannot make the jump.
Yep. It is the unorganized militia that are the first responders. The ROTC guys qualify since they were unarmed except for the probably illegal knife. Synagogue defenders were the very definition of the militia. Primary defense against terrorists is the militia with LE being the backup component and having the investigation portfolio. Military is for offensive action.

The people that drive the movement, that make the suggestions, that have the “just so stories” about how to just disarm all the law-abiding and everything will be better, yes.
But most of them* are just emoting instead of thinking, being led by the nose without every engaging their brain. If they ever *could* be convinced to stop and think about it, a significant chunk of them would understand.
Not only “would”, but “have”! The number of people supporting gun control has *shrunk* over the last few decades. The high-water mark was in the 1990s, with the “assaults weapons ban”.
* OK, there are also those who don’t actually care about any of the facts OR any of the results, who are just virtue signalling. Most of those are completely lost to reason – it simply doesn’t matter to them. It’s a form of extreme luxury – all the “little things” (like food and not getting killed by maniacs) take care of themselves, so all they have to worry about is the “important things” like having the right people say nice things about them on BlueSky.
You cannot engage the supposed middle. They exist in a world where they follow the herd. There’s zero point in trying to win by winning the middle.
Destroy the anti-gunners. Take their money, destroy their support system, mock them until they die of what little shame they have left.
But do not pretend you can avoid a fight by winning a political battle they aren’t actually having with you. They want you dead. Laws are just them prepping the battlefield.
The Gun grabbing commie left are like islamists. They DON’T WANT YOU TO EXIST. Disarming you is just the first step towards being able to exterminate you. Far too few people are willing to understand and accept this reality.
If they had the capacity for rational thought, they wouldn’t be blaming the inanimate object to begin with.
