I Have a Mental Illness

Quote of the Day

I have a mental illness that makes me think that people will change their minds if I present the correct arguments with the appropriate facts and data.

I suffer from this too. I can sometimes overcome it for short periods of time, but it reoccurs in full force within a few hours.

It makes me want to just hole up in my underground bunker in Idaho and only come out for supplies, exercise, and grounds maintenance.

  1. You will remain so, until you realize that those on the left aren’t ruled by rational thought- they are ruled by emotions. They believe that communism will work, because everyone will work for the common good even though there is nothing in it for them.
Those on the right are ruled by the belief that others will change and create a world the way that we envision it- the way things ought to be, as Rush Limbaugh put it. They believe that everyone is rational and will act in their own best interests while maintaining respect for others.
You can bend the spoon to your will, once you realize the truth: They are both wrong. People are actually self serving jerks who will do whatever it takes to win. If that means others must suffer, so be it.
Better get to working on that bunker.

    • It is not just liberals. It is all people. It is just that some people do it far more than others. Most likely it is because it has an evolutionary advantage in being able to make extremely rapid, fairly decent judgements. It is not perfect, but many times “perfect” is the enemy of “good enough.” Quickly arriving at a “good enough” decision will save your life more often than taking a long time to arrive at a near perfect decision.

The problem is that when time is of less importance it is extremely difficult for some people to override the emotional decision making and work through the evidence and logic. Reality is really, really, tough.

  2. I think your just speaking to your caste.
A lot of people will never “get it”. But that’s OK. Some will. Those are your people. Friends and family.
The problem we face today is that people have been brainwashed not to listen. Or have enough respect for others.
As for idiots. Speak softly and carry a big stick.
Oh, and dig a bunker if you can afford one.
