Last month I speculated the wind was a factor in the missed shot at former President Trump. Later, with more information, I concluded the wind was not a factor.
Dean Weingarten digs deeper into the data and also concludes the wind could only have been a minor factor: GUN WATCH: Wind and the President Trump Assassination Attempt.
It is wrong to assume the assassin was aiming at Trump’s head. He hit three other people and missed completely with 4 shots. Can you say pray and spray.
I’d say the only plausible assumption is that he was aiming at Trump, but\ he wasn’t a good enough shooter to get a solid hit.
at the range involved, it would take a very strong wind indeed to signicantly alter the course of a bullet.
All I know is from plugging numbers into JBM.
A 55gr 223 bullet with a m/v of 3300fps drifts ~2″ at 140 yards with a 10mph crosswind.
You can extrapolate different speeds and vectors from there. (Or plug them into JBM.)
Your talking an inch… if that round had been an inch closer Trump would be either dead or permanently disabled. And it doesn’t take that much wind to move a round an inch at 150 yards. So while it may not have been a major factor it could have been a factor….enough of one to make a difference. Any way you cut it Trump is either amazingly lucky, or if your religious protected by god.
