In the bad old days, race was often used to discriminate against black applicants. Today race is often used to discriminate in favor of black applicants. I guess that is some sort of progress. But real progress will be achieved only if and when race is no longer a factor that trumps meritocracy.
Only then will Martin Luther King, Jr.’s dream of how his children and ours should be judged become a reality.

[Just interact with people as individuals rather than some racial/religious/ethic/sexual-preference group. Does this person do good work and get along with people? If so, then except for a very few jobs, the other stuff does not matter.
By not hiring people based on merit society is made to pay more for goods and services. It is an waste of economic resources. Or, if you want to tweak the lefties, non-meritocracy hiring damages the planet.—Joe]
Alan is wrong. Discriminating against white people in America, which is what favoring “people of color” is, is NOT progress. It is profoundly demoralizing. It is dividing. It makes things not work as well, It puts people in positions they KNOW they don’t deserve on merit, and turns many of them into bullies. It is part of why so many millennials and zoomers have a poor work ethic: why on earth should they try hard when they know the game is rigged and either they cant get ahead if white, or they’ll get the job or promotion even if unqualified because black, and a company can get extra “diversity points” by hiring foreigners rather than white Americans?
“Affirmative Action” helped break the protestant work ethic and make people fatalistic and compliant and demoralized. It helped de-unify the nation. It’s toxic, and it must be struck down if there is to be ANY chance of not having a civil war and break-up of the country.
Exactly, it’s made to destroy this nation. Vox Day talked about watching people of lower intellect struggling to keep up in higher education. Watching them become demoralized and hateful.
Affirmative action could only create racism. And anyone with a degree should understand that.
What black professional can one go to today and not have a jaundiced eye toward?
Are they truly that smart? Or did someone just hand it to them?
Stuff breaks, and needs fix’in. And lies won’t keep the lights on, and the toilets flushing.
The real problem is; that which can’t last, won’t. And what you can’t do, can’t be papered over for very long.
Somehow, the rugged individualists always seem to lose to the organized groups.
The rugged individualist has to sleep, even a little, sometimes. The conspiratory groups sleep in shifts so that the group is always awake.
