Quote of the day—Victor Davis Hanson

If Biden were polling at 70 percent approval, and his policies at 60 percent, the current doomsayers would be reassuring us of the “health of the system.”

They are fearful and angry not because democracy doesn’t work, but because it does, despite their own media and political efforts to warp it.

When a party is hijacked by radicals and uses almost any means necessary to gain and use power for agendas that few Americans support, then average voters express their disapproval.

That reality apparently terrifies an elite. It then claims any system that allows the people to vote against the left is not “people power” at all.

Why Is the Left Suddenly Worried About the End of Democracy?

  1. “That reality apparently terrifies an elite.”

That reality is supposed to terrify an elite. Even back in the days of the “divine right of kings”, an absolute monarch was expected to know that he could push the common people only so far.

The governing are always heavily outnumbered by the governed. Part of the genius of the American founding fathers was to make this clear — and to ensure that the governing are also heavily outgunned by the governed. Other regimes could fool themselves that the common people could not simply overrun them; in America, millions of long-distance sharpshooters take to the woods every year, for fun.

And then, if there was any doubt, we got to see our Honorable Rulers in full-blown panic when a few dozen unarmed people in funny costumes took a walk through the Capitol.

They know that this was not an “insurrection”. What they perhaps don’t realize is that they do not want to inspire people to say: “That wasn’t an insurrection! Now this is an insurrection…”

  2. Because they know, we know the whole Biden thing is a lie. Just like his poll numbers.
Everyone seems to forget Bidens election was a fraud. Stolen for him in the middle of the night. Just as his poll numbers are pumped for whatever effect the propaganda ministries want this week.
He never had an approval rating.
And after being able to put Traitor Joe in the white house, and punish the J6 people the way they are. Among the pile extra-constitutional crap they’ve been pulling off for years now. Democracy is the last thing their worried about.
Albeit Mr. Hanson is brilliant in most all he bespeaks.
Nancy, Chucky, and Sandy ain’t worried about democracy. And never have been.

  3. “That reality apparently terrifies an elite.”
I’m not so sure they’re terrified so much as insulted. They consider themselves above public opinion, smarter than the dumb, greedy and unclean voters. They feel entitled to power, that they shouldn’t be subjected to the petty insult, even the outrage, of having to stoop so far down, to dirty themselves, groveling and lying for votes.

And this is a purely logical assessment, for if they believe that the individual cannot be trusted to make his own decisions (what car to buy, what car to build, how to build his house, how to interact with his employees, whether he should own a gun, etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc, etc), if they don’t trust the individual to dispose of his own income as he sees fit, then why on earth would anyone expect them trust the individual to vote the right way? It makes no sense, and therefore every elite is fundamentally, by definition, anti-democracy whether he knows it or not.

But all of the above is mostly distraction. We’re supposed to a constitutional republic and not a democracy, for every democracy is soon a tyranny.

Therefore we can begin to see how we’re being psychologically herded into a global tyranny, such that we, thinking ourselves libertarians, will do their job for them in defending and upholding democracy against our best interests, as though it were the highest, best form of governance!

So which is it? Do you favor the constitutional limitations on the scope, reach, jurisdiction and power of government, OR do you favor democracy? It’s important to know where you stand because they’re essentially opposites.

And so I ask, What is it that we should really be talking about? At the moment we’re only arguing over how best to decide who gets to control the Omnipotent and All Seeing Central Planning Committee, and THAT is not the problem. The problem is that we have one at all.

    • Agreed.

If the elites were truly that terrified of the people, their actions towards said people would be much less abrasive.

  4. The left is NOT worried about the “end of democracy”. They are worried about the “end of the democrat party”. World of difference.
