Joe, very nice to see someone quote Ed from our side. The liberal anti-gun crowd has appropriated his memory and words almost exclusively, but if you do a real reading of his works he is a much more realistic person than supposed. He frequently said his advocacy of wilderness was partly about love of wild places, and partly about a need to have a safe place to launch attacks from when the government eventually went too far.
I think I have only read The Monkey Wrench Gang but it was very clear to me that Abbey and liberals as I know them have very little in common.
