Quote of the Day
Progressive-led cities like Seattle, Smith argues, are killing Democrats’ brand with fringe rhetoric and well-publicized failures on crime, drugs and homelessness.
And yet, Smith says, he’s seen “a fierce resistance on the left side of the political spectrum to even consider the possibility that they should adjust some of their approaches.”
Smith’s crusade — which has upset some local elected officials and activists — is attracting national attention as Democrats debate why they lost and their best route out of the political wilderness.
After Trump defeated Kamala Harris in November, Smith told The Wall Street Journal “the extreme left is leading us into a ditch.”
In a recent New Yorker profile, Smith blamed his party’s woes on the “new left,” whose policies “have utterly and completely failed.” He singled out King County for funding programs with a leftist bent, including one that describes its work as fighting “cis-hetero patriarchy” and a move toward “getting rid of the criminal justice system.”

Rep. Smith’s crusade against Democrats’ left wing gets attention, flak | The Seattle Times
Smith is my representative in the U.S. House. It appears he has a clue on at least a few topics. However, I don’t expect him to make a meaningful difference in their political direction. I’m seeing him and his colleagues in a future “ditch” of their own making. They just can’t help themselves.
It is not the extreme left, it is their enablers in the mainstream. Useful idiots.
If he tries to make changes he’ll get primaried.
“He singled out King County for funding programs with a leftist bent, including one that describes its work as fighting “cis-hetero patriarchy” and a move toward “getting rid of the criminal justice system.”
The fact that they have money to “fund” such things tells you the real problem. Taxes everywhere should be less than half what they are now.
As for getting rid of the criminal justice system?
They pretty much already accomplished that one. Their problem is it’s just going to get replaced with a “vigilante justice system”.
One only need watch the whole Tesla debacle to understand what real communist do to useful idiots.
And how fast one can going from being the miracle saving the earth to a nazi sympathizer in a few weeks.
One can just as easily go from a ditch of your own making, to a ditch of your own digging, literally.
And it really sucks to find out your hated on from both sides.
Let’s hope Trump is truly playing 3D chess this time. As Richard alludes to. We can find the true enablers of all this.
Agreed. They are funding so many evil programs it is OBVIOUS they are raking in far too much tax money. I did a bit of back-of-envelope accounting a few weeks back, and even though my household is just a bit above the county median income, we are paying more than 30% of our gross income in taxes when just looking at the obvious ones, not digging into details and finding all the relatively small items. The house is paid for, but they still ding us for nearly a thousand a month in property taxes.
And what do I get for all that money? Mostly programs that are dysfunctional, or tell people to hate me, telling them that as a straight-white-Christian male I’m evil, and give a hand-up to people who hate me, or restrict my rights, and making this state a worse place to live for all non-parasites.
Shrink government, muchly and soon. If not, at least give them a good hard judicial smack-down on their civil-rights infringements.
The Democrat Party is now the quintessential embodiment of “the inmates running the asylum”…
I keep wondering what the end game is here, or, at least, what The Left thinks the end game should be, and how best to get there.
I suspect Reality can be severely ignored for only so long before consequences ensue. What we do about all the rubble that gets strewn along that path, I don’t know.
I find it interesting that Adam Smith is suddenly conscious of the radical left. He first won election when I was a prisoner of the Seattle/King County cabal. I price I did not know I would have to pay to have a well paying and mentally challenging/rewarding career in an industry that I had idolized since I was a child. From the start, there was never any questioning on his part that the Democrat party had any flaws. He has always been in lockstep with the party leadership. It got to the point that I just blocked any emails or texts messages from his office. I am glad that I survived to retire and move away to a place where people realize what dirt is actually for and what reality actually means. As far as I am concerned, this new epiphany he is promoting has come about only because his party lost and he is now afraid that the return to reality may include his being turfed out of office with its attendant loss of power, prestige and influence. I will guarantee that if the Dems had prevailed nationally last November you would not hear anything like this from him. A wise man told me once that politicians are actually political animals whose only instinct is to be reelected at any cost. Adam Smith could be a poster child for that fact.
