This executive order could be a really big deal:
Trump Signs Executive Order To Protect Second Amendment Rights
President Donald Trump has signed an executive order aimed at safeguarding the Second Amendment rights of American citizens. The order, titled Protecting Second Amendment Rights, directs the Attorney General to review and address potential infringements on the right to keep and bear arms that may have occurred during the Biden administration.
In the order, President Trump emphasized the foundational importance of the Second Amendment, calling it “an indispensable safeguard of security and liberty.”
He stated that the right to bear arms is essential for protecting families, preserving freedoms, and maintaining all other rights enshrined in the Constitution.
…
The Attorney General is tasked with examining all orders, regulations, guidance, plans, international agreements, and other actions taken by federal agencies from January 2021 through January 2025. The review will assess whether these actions infringed on the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens under the guise of promoting safety.
…
The Attorney General’s office is expected to begin its review immediately, with a proposed plan of action due within 30 days. Once finalized, the plan will outline specific steps to ensure that federal policies align with the protection of Second Amendment rights.
The order is a monumental win for gun rights in America and a clear statement from President Trump that he intends to uphold his promise to protect Constitutional freedoms.
“Joe Biden and Kamala Harris waged war on American gun owners and the Second Amendment for four long years,” Gottlieb recalled, “treating the right to keep and bear arms like a government-regulated privilege. That ended January 20, and we are looking ahead to actions by the Trump administration which will reverse Biden’s policies and correct the harm he has done.”
Mark Smith of the Four Boxes Diner:
I will celebrate when prison cell doors slam shut behind politicians who have been violating our rights for decades. They need to enjoy their trials before I really believe things have permanently changed.
Let’s see, I’d imagine that bump stocks, pistol braces, zero tolerance FFL audits, and binary triggers will be the first to go. But suppressors, SBRs, etc should tee up next. Vaporizing ATF altogether would be the cherry on top. That should handle ATF.
As important will be some final rulings from SCOTUS to invalidate all state assault weapons regs, magazine bans, red flags, and purchase permits, etc. They have their work cut out for them.
SBR and Suppressor Regs are statutory. Not much he can do there.
This will be more about undoing previous EOs and departmental level buggery.
I would have HOPED that NRA and SAF would have had a hit list ready to go, but maybe they’re just playing it coy.
It might become a big deal. At first read, however, it seems to direct all focus on “what Biden did” and very little on “a long history of encroaching infringements.”
I will be much more interested if it becomes something more than simply undoing everything the Biden administration did. Not that that’s not important, but the scope is … limited.
The problem is Trump’s AG Pam Bondi has a LONG history of being flagrantly anti 2A. To expect her to actually follow through on this EO properly is delusional. She will simply pay it lip service and continue with HER agenda. She’s already publicly stated she intends to focus on illegal immigrants and FIREARMS. She will without doubt prove to be one of Trump’s LARGEST failures this term in regards to actually working for freedom and not against it.
I’m sticking with the Zen master on this one; “we’ll see”.
“He stated that the right to bear arms is essential for protecting families, preserving freedoms, and maintaining all other rights enshrined in the Constitution.”
Hold that thought. As LTC Murray points out. Trump and team are paying major attention to social media. Ideas get floated like H1-B’s, get hammered. Trump changes direction. (Heard from Vivic lately?)
Same with the whole taking over Gaza thing. It’s going away as we speak.
Now we have his own words to throw back at him. And away push the message forward.
Also, If we have the right to defend our nation, our self, and everyone’s rights.
How come we can’t defend our hearing with a muzzle accessory?
The easy step Trump could take right now would be to revoke all state Point of Contact agreements – this is what allows states to do their own background checks, keep registries, and enforce state restrictions.
Without them, all sales go through the federal system, in accordance with federal law.It would stop the ridiculousness in liberal states instantly – but I doubt it will happen.
I don’t mean to be a naysayer, but I’m not that hopeful.
My reading of the EO is that it requires the AG, Pam Bondi, to come up with a list of Biden’s actions that she thinks impinge on Americans’ 2A rights, and how she thinks they should be handled.
The two glaring problems with this, in my mind, are:
1. Pam Bondi has a history of supporting and defending anti-gun laws, including “Red Flag”/ERPO laws; and
2. The scope is limited only to Biden’s presidential administration, from January 2021 to January 2025. It will not touch Obama’s policies or EOs, or either Bush’s, or Clinton’s, etc.
On #1, Pam Bondi’s opinion on what executive rules or regulations violate Americans’ 2A rights is probably going to be very different from yours or mine.
On #2, as others have pointed out, the limited scope will do very little to address the previous century of steady encroachment.
For both of those concerns, this doesn’t seem like the “Yuge” win that everyone is celebrating.
But I hope I’m wrong on that.
Looks like I’m not the only one voicing these same concerns.
