It’s not only another Markley’s Law Monday, it is another science denier (see also here)!
I have never heard of the affliction ‘”micropenis”. I’m wondering if Konayuki is speaking from personal experience.
Leftists always project. If they accuse you of fraud, they’re probably guilty of fraud. If they accuse you of racism, they’re probably guilty of racism. If they accuse you of treason and insurrection, they’re probably guilty of treason and insurrection.
It follows, then: If they accuse you of having a “micropenis”….
When someone tries to insult you, they will use an insult that they think is devastating. It is frequently the very essence of projection.
I wouldn’t make this kind of insult, for few reasons. First, one thing doesn’t have anything to do with another. Two, it is objectively verifiable, even if it is socially taboo, so the possibility of me making a statement from knowledge I can’t know and they obviously do know leaves me in a position of possibly stating a falsehood in support of my own position, which would weaken my position.
So, to flip that logic around, when someone makes this kind of specious insult, it tells me one thing: they don’t care about being right; they only care about “winning”; truth is unimportant to them.
That’s valuable to know, and valuable for them to demonstrate in public, so everyone can know what weight to put on their words. None, in fact, same as as other propogandist.
Astute observation.
Most emotional appeals are not actually aimed at the “opponent”, but rather to the audience, as they are trying to win support, not the truth. But even without an audience, one can often sway an opponent by causing him to become emotional, as most people know that they become less rational when emotional, and when they see that they have become emotional, and that the other side has not, it can cause them to question their own argument.
To envoke emotion in your opponent, insults may be used, but they are clearly *intended* to provoke, so the above effect is lessened. It works better if you trigger them with things they don’t believe they can be triggered by, so you look for “buttons” that trigger emotion….. and most people project, and instinctually try their *own* buttons first.
This is extremely useful information they are providing.
In related news: Scott Adams says we should call the left “weird”.
I speculate that the subject suffers from generalized affliction.
