If it ever seems all is lost keep those neurons firing, keep trying things, and don’t give up. Things you thought were insolvable problems might have a solution.
I have no category for this. This is in a category all it’s own for which I do not have the words. Maybe Tam does. Planes are within her area of expertise and her skill with words exceeds mine by an order of magnitude or more.
H/T to Joe D. from an email list.
Short check!
Amazing video, brought to mind the “if you can keep your head while those around you are losing theirs, you have failed to grasp the gravity of the situation”, or some such.
There was a little bit of a bounce on that touchdown but I’ll give him a passing grade considering the circumstances.
I also have my doubts as to whether he went through the entire check list on his approach.
If you look at the cockpit you can see it is black, no reflection in all the footage, except for the last one right after the massive defocus. It a RC plane, they have massive power to weight ratio compared to full size planes.

Whoa!!! If that video is for real then that wrangler has got the “Right Stuff” in spades. Amazing.
I initially thought it was an R/C plane from the way it moved in the air but decided I was wrong when it landed.
Okay. They got me.
That one may be fake, but this one is real (sensationalised, but real):
F-15 Fighter Jet flies with one wing
Only made possible by the high power to weight ratio, speed capabilities and the unique aerodynamics of the F-15.
Erm… link was supposed to go here: F-15
Initial plane is an RC model that morphs into the ‘real’ plane just as it turns to the left after landing. You can see the transition from model to real plane if you observe the landing gear and color of the fuselage as it turns.
You can violate the laws of flight with massive power to weight ratio’s in an RC but real world physics means that plane ain’t gonna fly with one wing, inverted, normal or otherwise.
PS.. It was determined by McD engineer’s that the F-15’s fuselage acted like a lifting body to maintain its flight capability as the plane made an abnormally high landing speed touchdown to come home safely.
