[I am inclined to dismiss “pretend”. All appearances are they are very serious. There are other hypothesis which match the available evidence better:
- They are delusional.
- They are deliberately lying (evil).
Of those two I’m inclined to go with the second option. They have been informed so many times by so many people for so many decades and there is so much evidence that must be overlooked by so many people that I have to rule out a mass delusion that infectious and lasting this long.—Joe]
The CPUSA branch of the Uniparty is out to burn down the republic by any means necessary.
One must remember they started by lying to themselves first. Got really good at it. And went downhill from there.
But no matter. Criminal intent, and criminal negligence have the same penalty.
What the penalty is will be decided by the winner.
Thus, the reason communists are so single minded in focus toward winning. Regardless of cost.
It always has to be year zero. Otherwise you have to face all the evil and lies, the pain of all that stupidity.
It’s a very interesting psychosis actually. We all do it in one way or another. Although not to the extreme of the communist.

But sorry Scott, they not only can, but will continue pretending, lying and committing evil. They will double down on it all. And project you as the one doing it.

Scott Adams’ hypothesis and your second are pretty much the same.
Pretending is another word for falsifying reality. It might be innocent, as when a child is pretending their toys are alive. And it might not, as when the Left pretends Marxism works, abortion is “women’s health”, guns cause crime, and everyone not on the Left is an evil, white supremacist, homophobic, misogynistic bigot who has no workable solutions, despite mountains of evidence to the contrary.
IOW, in Mr. Adams’ tweet, “pretending” is 100% synonymous with “lying”.
