Quote of the day—Mike

Ironic that the Chinese curse of “may you live in interesting times” has been kicked off by the Chinese government itself.

Excellent observation!

The rest of the email is of potential interest:

Hey Joe,

Up here in Canada, the Chief Firearms Officer for Ontario (the province I live in) has just suspended the required Firearms Safety Courses one needs to take to be able to APPLY for a firearms license. Just like that, if you didn’t have a gun license at this point, you’ll have to ride out the coming storm with whatever is at hand, it would seem.

Considering someone pulled a gun on another person who was apparently looking at them funny, in the liberal stronghold of Toronto, no less, things should get mighty interesting over the next few weeks (days?).

Ironic that the Chinese curse of “may you live in interesting times” has been kicked off by the Chinese government itself.

Thanks for your time,

Mike

It’s interesting the response some of the political jurisdictions in the U.S. have taken. Two movies on one screen.

According to SAF (emphasis added):

SAF: ILLINOIS GOV. SETS EXAMPLE FOR OTHERS ON GUN, AMMUNITION STORES

BELLEVUE, WA — The Second Amendment Foundation today applauded Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker for including firearm and ammunition suppliers on the list of “essential businesses and operations” that will remain open during the Prairie State’s “Shelter-In-Place” emergency due to the ongoing COVID-19 Coronavirus emergency.

“When an anti-gun Democrat governor declares that essential businesses include firearm and ammunition suppliers and retailers for the purposes of safety and security, that is a really big deal,” said SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb. “Every governor should copy the Illinois example when issuing ‘shelter-in-place’ and business closure orders in the face of the Coronavirus.”

Three other states are already under sweeping emergency orders as the nation copes with the Coronavirus pandemic. They are New York, Pennsylvania and California.

“Depending upon how long this emergency continues,” Gottlieb observed, “many Americans may find themselves facing situations where they will need to be their own first responders. Gov. Pritzker obviously understands this, and we encourage the governors of all other states to recognize this isn’t an issue of party politics but of personal and community safety.”

Executive Order 2020-10 directs all individuals living within the state of Illinois to stay at home, except for “Essential Activities, Essential Government Functions, or to operate Essential Businesses and Operations.” These include information technology equipment manufacturers and suppliers, hardware, food, cleaning supplies, and “firearm and ammunition suppliers and retailers for purposes of safety and security,” the order says.

“We are all in this together,” Gottlieb stated, “and we will make it through, together, as well. Stay safe, stay well and stay ready.”

And in the San Francisco Bay Area, of course, gun stores are not considered essential. Nevermind, as pointed out by author David Codrea, in the article:

What about gun stores?  If we’re talking that which is essential, what is it the Founders deemed “necessary to the security of a free State”?

The politicians responsible for issuing such an order should be prosecuted.—Joe]

  1. As should leaders in Bellingham. They are debating a coronavirus gun ban.

“Bellingham City Council is scheduled to vote on an emergency declaration that would ban the sale, distribution, or possession of guns throughout the entire city. If you violate their directive, you’d be committing a gross misdemeanor.”

“5. An order requiring the discontinuance of the sale, distribution, or giving away of firearms and/or ammunition for firearms in any or all parts of the city;”

“7. An order requiring the closure of any or all business establishments where firearms and/or ammunition for firearms are sold or otherwise dispensed; provided, that with respect to those business establishments which are not primarily devoted to the sale of firearms and/or ammunition and in which such firearms and/or ammunition may be removed or made secure from possible seizure by the public, the portions thereof utilized for sale of items other than firearms and ammunition may, in the discretion of the mayor, be allowed to remain open;”

” 9. An order prohibiting the carrying or possession of firearms or any instrument which is capable of producing bodily harm and which is carried or possessed with the intent to use the same to cause such harm; provided, that any such order shall not apply to peace officers or military personnel engaged in the performance of their official duties;”

If this passes then they are making it illegal to defend yourself even if you are only using a club or stone.

    • Bellingham, Washington?

That’s going to run headfirst into Washington strong pre-emption law. As such, if they pass it, it has no legal weight because the entire subject is outside their powers.

Thus anyone trying to implement it is executing a violation of rights under color of law, which is at minimum a federal misdemeanor. If there is any force used or threatened, it’s a federal felony. Also, conspiracy to commit a federal crime is a federal felony, so we might as well arrest the Bellingham city council now. Conspiracy to commit a crime not actually committed is still conspiracy.

  2. Wait; so we’re now assuming that the Chinese government created this virus? Because that’s the fundamental, central assumption in the quote. It’s kind of odd to just leaving it hanging there as the foundational assumption without any discussion as to how or why.

Or have I been too far out of the loop? What did I miss? Of course everyone with an enemy is blaming their personal enemy for creating or spreading the coronavirus, but is there actual proof this time? I mean, sure; the virus almost certainly came out of China, but that’s a far cry from saying that the Chinese government did it.

You know what’s a far worse virus though? Communism/socialism/fascism and all the other collectivist/Marxist/Romish authoritarian thinking. They’re far more destructive and deadly.

To have the various Central Planners trying to “combat a virus” then is really quite ironic, being that they’re the embodiment, the functional representatives, of possibly the worst, longest lasting, most deadly plague ever on Earth.

    • I didn’t read it as the Chinese government created the virus. I think that is a big leap from his words to your conclusion.

There is circumstantial evidence the government had the virus in a lab a very short distance from where the first cases appeared. Perhaps it escaped.

Another way to read the email is that the government had an poor response to the initial infections.

      • Looking at some of the things implied by the latest Q-post, https://qntmpkts.keybase.pub// 23March2020, as discussed a little here https://www.anonymousconservative.com/blog/news-briefs-03-24-2020/ , it’s more than a little coincidental that it would help the Dems remove Trump by totally tanking the economy and throwing the nation into turmoil. They didn’t expect a cure (chloroquine +Z-pak, others possibly as well) to be found in time to get things restarted and moving and booming again before November. They were hoping to pass the Dem’s “stimulus” bill with it’s effective re-write of the bureaucracy and voting systems because “gather to vote would be to risky – make it all vote-by-mail (fraud)”, etc. I don’t expect more than another two weeks of “lockdown / shelter-in-place / home self-quarantine” before things start full bore recovery and normalizing. The moral-boost such a V-shaped recovery would give the nation would be HUGE.

If that happens, I’d put Trump’s victory in November north of 350 EC votes. I’m also thinking that NY gov Cuomo will likely be selected as the Dem nominee for president in a brokered convention because of the “strong,” “bold” response to the crisis in the face of the FedGov’s “inept” handling of the crisis. Biden and Bernie certainly are not up to the challenge.

  3. Lyle, I haven’t seem any credible information at this time that the CHICOMs created the virus, but their actions (or lack thereof) certainly ensured this became a pandemic instead of a local issue.

The Ohio Department of Health “stay at home” order explicitly listed gun/ammo stores as essential services and not closed under the order.

    https://www.buckeyefirearms.org/ohio-department-health-stay-home-order-exempts-guns-ammo-retailers.

    Hurray for Federalism

    • OH has a Republican governor. The fact Illinois came to the same conclusion, though that state is a D sinkhole run by rich heir Democrat Pritzker, is rather more surprising.

    • Months ago Zerohedge had a report on the kung flu in Wuhan. It came from a guy in New York some years back. A Canadian lab had it for study. A couple of doctors from China were in Canada studying and got busted sending a sample back to the Wuhan lab.
Now, the Wuhan lab is very close to weird meat market that is blamed for the start of the out break. And what do we test viruses on? Primates of course. Something that might have gotten sold at a meat market. Instead of incinerated? The last part was my .02.

      • Also, they blamed it on the U.S. Army. Not a big deal if it’s just another natural flu from China, like the swine flu. But why blame it on our military?
If it turns out to be weaponized? Genetically modified? All hell is going to break lose. And finger pointing is going to be the least of our worries.

        • Turns out we had ~300 military in the Wuhan area for some sort of co-operative venture about the same time the virus got loose. Bad timing!

I was reading that someone who knows the people involved has stated that the low level workers in that bio-lab had realized that they could make some extra money by selling the former test animals at that food market. Talk about a direct connection for the release of the virus!
This is the sort of idiocy you get when you have third world peasants working in a psuedo-first world environment. One generation is not enough time to get a nation up to speed like the Chinese are attempting.

I was also reading about this female Chinese bat virus expert that travels around the world collecting interesting variations of it and giving it to that Wuhan bio-lab, where she supposedly works for the military. I suspect that for the sort of work she does, she either works for the military, or can’t work in China at all.

A few days later, I see a MSM report on this same woman, touting her humanitarian efforts to help figure out what this virus is, and how to fight it. She seems to have helped create the latest version, or at least brought it to that lab, so she should know something about it!

          • I believe the 300 military people were there at the same time military personal from around the world were there for some kind of competition? So why blame it on the U.S.?

          • Because they are communists, and lying about everything is what they do?
