You guys (the left) really want to stop pushing quite so hard. The political pendulum has never, in the history of humanity, stayed on one side of a swing. The back lash from over reach has always been proportionate to how far off center it went before coming back. (Hint, that’s what started the whole prohibition thing, and it’s also what started the 60s, was backlashes) Well right now we’re staring at a whole hell of a lot of the country (about 80-90% of the land mass, as well as about 50% of the population) that is FED UP. You really don’t want those guys to decide that the only way to fix it is to burn it down and start over… REALLY! Most of these folks are vets, and the children of vets, they’ve had guns in their hands since middle school or before, or they’re still serving either in the regulars, the reserves, or the NG. If it goes to armed insurrection, even if the left wins, (highly damn unlikely) it will be a mess worse than reconstruction, worse than the Balkans. For the love of the country that I’ve served for over three decades, start seeking peace now.

Thoughts on the road
[Last weekend I heard people people say it would be a good thing if Seattle burned down. They figured it was a lost cause and their solution was to prepare to protect themselves and their family and turn their back on what used to be a city they loved.—Joe]
Like I recently said somewhere else with the gun control / pro-rights debate, the anti-rights folks should really be careful what names they call us and how frequently they call us them – sooner or later, we’re going to decide that if we’re going to be saddled with the baggage anywise, we might as well do the things associated with them.
The same could be said about the political divide in our country as well.
If “we” were actually as described by the progressive/liberals, this would already be over and they’d all already be dead.
The delusion they have is that somehow, they’ll be in positions to properly rebuild society.
It never occurs to them that they may be part of the butcher’s bill.
Exactly. Most of them don’t realize they’ll be some of the first swinging from the lamp posts when the balloon finally does go up.
Having small children, I really hate to say it, but I do think we’ll get to the shooting civil war point in this country before I die.
Most of us are coming to the conclusion that we can’t vote our way out of this mess. All that is left will be picking up the pieces and starting over. If the left is so determined to take the Constitution, most on the right are realizing that starting over will be much simpler without the big cities on any coast. The land mass is red, the cities are blue, the difference is self reliance, and the cities are a rapid ride away from anarchy.
Most politicians on the right are just as much intent on disregarding and destroying the constitution as those on the left. There may be some trivial differences in which 10% of the Constitution they do approve of, but that’s a distinction without a difference.
A fair number of Republicans will claim to support the 2nd amendment, but they don’t seem to care much for any other article in the Bill of Rights. Similarly, some Democrats support the 1st amendment (a shrinking number of them, to be sure) while having no use for the other 9 either.
If you operate on the belief that only the left want to do away with the Constitution, you’re making a major error of judgment.
I agree 100%. I believe we should throw them all out and start over, with term limits! The one error the Founding Fathers made, in my view, was to not include term limits. They trusted that elected officials would go home after a reasonable time in Congress, obviously a weak point.

The problem there is that farmers make up less than 2% of the population, and the left (if asked) figures that they could easily be replaced with dem-voting immigrants in a land-grab and redistribution, a-la Zimbabwe and Mugabe, or else we can keep importing Argentine and Australian beef, Chilean fruits and veggies, and so-forth, and it will all be good.
They are delusional, of course, but that doesn’t mean they won’t run what they think are good numbers and think it’s a perfectly good thing to try
Without the farmers it will be impossible to import enough food to feed the cities, and if we did, the cities don’t produce enough saleable product to pay for it. The cities have no natural resources, they all come from the red part of the country. Cut those resources and food off, and the cities disentegrate so fast that few would survive to move out into the red part of the country. It’s not the 2% of farmers that make the red part of the red, it’s everyone else, and we make up more than enough to stop the land take over.
You know that.

Most of the politicians know that.
Most of the thinking and well-informed people know that.
Most of the voters *don’t*. They will follow the lies the pols tell them, and when a famine hits the pols responsible will blame the wreckers and kulaks, I mean bitter-clingers, and they will move to control the flow of information and restrict movement. They will be convinced they will be on top after the revolution, and the deaths of millions are nothing but a statistic to them to be turned into propaganda.
We’ve seen this movie before. It doesn’t have a happy ending.
Hell, cut power to the cities and it’s anarchy within about an hour. No way to protect all the long distance transmission lines that feed the likes of NY, Chicago, etc etc…
“We feed them?” Who is “we”? If you believe that farmers in general are an ideologically driven libertarian block, think again. Virtually every farmer is a participant in multiple, gigantic federal and state programs. They may not be fully conscious of this, but they’ve had one foot in communism since before their parents were born. Shut down the subsidies and the special deals and legal dispensations and a good many farmers would feel as though you’d stolen something from them, that some Great Injustice had occurred. They’ll go for a Bernie Sanders over a libertarian, I’d say, by a super majority. Assuming they currently vote overwhelmingly Republican (and I’d have to see the gun camera film on that) it’s only because Republicans are dedicated Progressives. Farmers are as much among the Great Entitled as anyone ever was, and more than most.
So I hear all this talk about fighting, but almost zero talk of who, exactly, would be fighting whom, and for what end.
Gun rights isn’t enough. The concept of the second amendment simply grew out of an overall concept of human liberty and individual responsibility (an unrestricted population with a very highly restricted government).
And so you can’t say “don’t touch my guns and I want want my free meds” or “don’t touch my guns, and I want my subsidy because my industry is important” or “don’t touch my guns, and shut down the border”. None of those are idealogical arguments. Those are all demands based on personal preferences with no definite reasoning behind them.
And so it’s that “reasoning behind them”, the guiding principles, which must be articulated. Once articulated and understood, the other things fall into place on their own. It’s obvious that we have the right to bear arms, it’s obvious that we must be able to control our borders, and it’s obvious that government subsidies, and grand visions of molding and shaping society via coercion, are violations of human liberty and individual sovereignty.
Otherwise you’ll flock to the first pissed-off loudmouth authoritarian who promises to kick someone’s ass while maintaining your free shit. And that, Friends, is right where we’re heading. That’s turning us into Trumpanziees.
The voices of reason will be drowned out in the fray. You simply won’t notice them unless you search for them, but if you already know what to search for, you don’t need to search for it.
And I’m hearing this “if they’re ALREADY ACCUSING US of evil, we might as well BE evil” argument more and more. Linoge; if you go that route, you won’t know this until after it’s too late but you will have been working to further the enemy’s cause. There will be much weeping and gnashing of teeth in your ranks, and wondering how it came to pass that things could go so far sideways.
A logical and rational appeal to the left…..problem is the left doesn’t deal in logic or reason. They function on emotion……what makes them feel good vs
bad. There has not and never can be rational discourse between right and left…..it is simply not possible. The rational thing is for the rational right to
take control of everything and not allow those who are slaves to emotion and feelings any power. Our down fall started with giving women the vote….power and they used that power to vote into office people who promised they would make the world safe and fair. That insanity has progressed for a century to the point where America is teetering on the brink. Allowing the left any say in
anything more complex than whether or not to eat in or dine out is societal suicide.
Both major parties defecate on the constitution whenever it gets in their way. The current reaction to leftist excesses is looking like fascism to me, and is just as bad as socialism. How many people actually support liberty in this country? Only 1% voted libertarian last presidential election. How many of those would actually fight for their liberty? Can you win a revolution with half of a percent of the voting population actively fighting for it, possibly yes. Can you win the resulting peace and restore the Republic, not a chance.
For those advocating violent reaction to leftist excesses, be careful. The media will paint anything you do as extremism, just like they did with the Bundys. Pick your battles carefully, or you will be washed into the wastebin of history.
