Teacher Arrested At Pearson AirportA high school teacher was arrested today at Toronto’s Pearson Airport as he attempted to board a flight while in possession of a ruler, a protractor, a compass, a slide-rule and a calculator.
At a press conference, Premier Mark Carney said he believes
the man is a member of the notorious extremist Al-Gebra movement. He did not identify the man, who has been charged by the OPP with carrying weapons of math instruction.‘Al-Gebra is a problem for us’, the Premier said. ‘They derive solutions by means and extremes, and sometimes go off on tangents in search of absolute values.’
‘They use secret code names like “X” and “Y” and refer to themselves as “unknowns” but we have determined they belong to a common denominator of the axis of medieval with coordinates in every country.”
When asked to comment on the arrest, Prime Minister Carney said, “If God had wanted us to have better weapons of math instruction, He would have given us more fingers and toes.”
Fellow Liberal colleagues told reporters they could not recall a more intelligent or profound statement by any Prime Minister.

At the present time, I think this is overstating the level of censorship in Canada and an arrest on such a basis is not a real concern. I can, however, see the political powers unable to see the humor.
Give it another year or three, then teachers who promote racist activities, such as math, will be given a modest fine for their first offense and the people such as deWinter who mock the political elite will get prison sentences.
Even it if it is off on a tangent from my usual content, I think It is funny because it has more than a little truth to it.
I’m given to understand that Al-Gebra adherents irrationally claim that pie are squared.
But everyone knows pie are round.
To be fair, I did say it was an irrational claim. 😉
I’m reminded of a story a while ago from a college in Colorado where a “professor” of astronomy (I think it was) wanted to change things to erase the white male biases. Egads.
For that matter, a couple of decades ago the French government started an effort to replace Google search with a European (which really meant French) solution. It was explicitly stated that they aimed to be a “more feminine” search engine. An oldie but goodie!
An under-addressed problem, of censorship and a potential police state, is running into authorities with absolutely no sense of humor.
First they outlaw guns. Then they outlaw finger-guns. Then they jail you for flexing your biceps and _calling_ them guns.
Eventually someone will say something, online in the UK,
e.g. “I’m feelinG UNSatisfied”, and get arrested for that.
So, they’re still teaching analytic geometry in Canadian urban schools?! In most US urban public schools that was dropped from the curriculum years ago. None of our urban public schools even teach the prerequisite courses. To racist and Patriarchal….
Look, everyone knows math is only there to make you feel stupid. (Kind of like spelling and punctuation do me.)
And with AI, 2+2=5 is close enough for today’s youth.
Besides, people that think like that will one day want everyone else to, also.
I get it.
But you’all math heads are just trying to geek the system. And make us all feel bad.
We live in an emotional based system now. Get over yourselves already and get with the program.
