Quote of the Day
I think they are afraid that people will see what can be done if politicians commit to taking action and really want to make a difference. That’s really the only reason I can think of because otherwise, it makes no sense. And if you look at what Mayor Muriel Bowser has done in D.C. – she’s embraced it and it’s made a huge difference. I wish they would learn from her.

‘Afraid’: Ex-Chicago police leader criticizes Dems for rejecting federal crime aid
There are other plausible explanations:
- The politicians want people to be victims, so the politicians have that as an issue to campaign on. To be fair, this could be an implementation detail of the reason Weis is suggesting.
- If successful, it will implicitly be giving credit to Republicans and diminish the likelihood of Democrats being returned to office.
- They are sadists and enjoy seeing the death and destruction of others with no serious risk to themselves.
- Trump Derangement Syndrome, TDS. We have an epidemic of it in this country.
And, of course, we should always consider embracing the healing power of AND.
They’re corrupt incompetent grifters, and they don’t want to be exposed for being any of those three things. Furthermore, it undermines their power and independence. (Chicago is effectively a city-state.). It’s bad optics, they know it, Trump knows it too.
Lol, says the guy who is afraid of cities I’m sure. Enjoy thar fear with a side of cowardice.
Jody Weis who stood with the defense of Jon Burge? Lol.
Weis who doesn’t see the partnership with the FBI already happening, because he opposed it during his stay as superintendent. Do as I say not as I do, sounds typical republican.
You all are just as clownish as the clowns you deride.
If you know what’s happening in his mind, please, come with me to next Thursday’s poker game.

Sorry. That’s an oops!
There’s another somewhat similar explanation that applies to bureaucracies generally. An Agency to Fix X will never, in fact, fix X, Instead, it will allow it to get gradually worse and use that fact to justify bigger budgets, more power, and more staff. It can’t allow X to get fixed because then the agency would no longer be necessary. (Or it would have to get a new mission somehow; that occasionally works as shown by the DEA which started out as enforcement of Prohibition while that existed.)
