So what happens if my wife is seriously ill and uses my gun to commit suicide? Am I going to be charged under I-1639 for not properly securing my gun?
Only if you are white / male / conservative. Then it is just to do so.
If you are !white / !male / !conservative, then there is no reason to compound your tragic experience further with court proceedings; you have been punished enough by the horrible experience itself.
