At a meeting this morning we were discussing a possible name for a new product. It was suggested that since we already have SkyDrive and SkyMarket (with rumors of SkyLine and SkyBox), maybe we should name the project SkyNet. The consensus was there were probably names less threatening to the warm and fuzzies.
I like it. It would certainly get attention, and that’s a good thing. You might have to clear it with the movie makers though. I’d say for every person who was turned off by it you’d have ten more attracted by it.
I for one welcome our new robotic overlords 🙂
Actually, that was my first thought when they brought out the name Skyline. That and whether Nissan would push a copyright infringement through against Microsoft.
Didn’t Ford have a Skyline back in the 1950s? Or was their hardtop convertible called the Skyliner?
One could argue that using the name would benefit either Nissan or the Terminator movie by way of calling more attention to it.
Regardless, if some PR firm says you should stay away from a name because it might offend a couple hundred people, you should probably do the opposite.
