Quote of the day—Glenn Reynolds

There’s nothing that would provoke more “gun violence” than an attempt to seize guns. But gun control isn’t about preventing violence, it’s about forcing those rubes in Flyover Country to knuckle under.

ACTUALLY, GUN CONTROL DOESN’T MAKE ME FEEL GOOD
[While for all practical purposes this is true I can think of a few, really “out there” things that would provoke more “gun violence”, but I’m not going to give anyone ideas.—Joe]

  1. Dr. Reynolds, you are too close to the law to see the actual danger. The ultimate purpose of Gun Control is to destroy the Bill of Rights, and when that’s done, permit the installation of a Marxist Dictatorship.

Take it to the bank, sir. A proper legal linkage between Marxism and Gun Control is out there, just as there is also a legal linkage between Health Care Control and Marxism.

    • Science fiction writer and essayist L. Neil Smith has been arguing that point for decades. It’s all over his fiction, too. For very straightforward essays on the subject, read his “Lever Action” or “Down with Power”.
Actually, you can just remember his observation: “Never forget, even for an instant, that the one and only reason anyone has for taking your gun away is to make you weaker than he is, so he can do something to you that you wouldn’t let him do if you were equipped to prevent it. This goes for burglars, muggers, and rapists, and even more so for policemen, bureaucrats, and politicians.”
