Due to security concerns, people with Android phones should disable connections to 2G networks.
To do this, go to
Settings, Connections, Mobile Networks
Then disable “Allow 2G services”.

Given that both 2G and 3G have been retired in the USA it’s amazing those would even be enabled in the first place.
T-Mobile is just now starting their decommissioning of 2G.
Not an option on the newer phones.
