Did you see the smiles after connecting with the 650 yard boomer? I am of the opinion Boomershoot is a valid treatment for depression and should be covered by most health insurance.

Nice video. Bloody awful audio.
Why does everyone who makes a video think it has to be accompanied by the infernal racket of some dumbass kid beating a trash can with a stick?

@2:23 (fitting!); I love that you can see the distortion in the air as the bullet slings downrange to impact the (steel popper?).

Sounds great on my Altecs. There’s a bit of what sounds like LF wind rumble, and some percussion music, both buried deep in the audio mix. Good bandwidth and balance. No problem. Much better than most. What often bugs the hell out of me is music that interferes with the dialog (why, Lord, whyyyyy?) but in this vid it is thoroughly tolerable.

Oh; you mean the gunshots. Well it is a shooting event, yo?. You’re probably kidding, but for those who may not know; a high power rifle shot at several paces is something like 140 or more dB louder than the human speech they’re recording at close range. Dynamic range and all, you know. The input circuits were being clipped, so the gunshots are distorted, sounding like dumbass kids beating a trash can. Pad the gain so the gunshots aren’t distorted, and the speech level is waaaaay down there. The microphones, not having been designed for recording nuclear blasts, were probably being way over-pressured anyway and would sound like crap being hit by the intense shockwave of a braked 7mm Magnum 10 yards to the side no matter what. It just doesn’t work, so you optimize for the speech, M’Kay?

No, I don’t mean the gunshots.
I’m not deaf, nor am I stupid. I’m an electrical engineer who understands video and audio recording, sound pressure, dB, microphones, and the like. I’m also a shooter who has videoed shooting many times over many years, both with and without noise limiting.
By “infernal racket of some dumbass kid beating a trash can with a stick” I mean the infernal racket of the drummer whose soundtrack clatters along underneath everything else. Yes, it is there, it is quite audible, and it is unnecessary, gratuitous noise that I find quite irritating.
