Last night we took Xenia to the Seattle airport to greet her fiancée John when he got off the plane. He just recently got back in the states from Iraq and was going home to central Washington state for a couple weeks.
Our first indication of something unusual was another passenger exiting the secure area asking, “Are you waiting for the soldier?” He informed us John was in first class and would be there very soon. John barely cleared security and was giving Xenia a hug and a kiss when strangers came up to him and wanted to shake his hand and say thanks. We got constant interruptions from others as we tried to exit the airport and find his parents who were in orbit in the pickup area.
This is in sharp contrast to those that were spat upon and unjustly called killers as they returned from Vietnam.
Nice. Very nice.
Welcome home John. We are glad you made it back safely and thank you for your service.
The pictures I took are on Xenia’s camera and probably will be available in a few days.
You didn’t mention the part where he had NO idea we would be there 🙂
Yeah, you’re right. John just thought it would just be his parents there instead of Barb, Xenia, and I. We paid for his supper at IHOP last night too.
Soldiers getting respect and admiration? What’s this world coming to? (sorry, Leftists, your seditious tactics are growing old and they are failing) By the way; have Jack Murtha and John Kerry been accusing the Russian soldiers of all sorts of horrible atrocities, or is that sort of thing reserved exclusively for American troops and those of Her allies?
Sure wish I had a Homecoming like that in 1969. And in 1973. And in . . .
I do not hesitate to thank anyone who has served. It started with my nephew the marine’s wedding and his fellow warriors. It has continued to the son of my nextdoor neighbor who is a navy man.
A couple of former bosses served in the Air Force. I have pointedly thanked them. This is not their war, but it is our country thanks to them.
So, Terry, though I do not know you, THANK YOU!
Thank you Rob. That was appreciated very much. VERY MUCH. Both, my brother Tim and I were, to put it mildly, not welcomed HOME.
And thank you to Joe who has me looking at this Blob often!
