Something you should know

The President of the Brady Campaign is not anti-gun. He says so, so it must be true:

Helmke said he’s not pro-gun and he’s not anti-gun, but he is for establishing rules so that guns can be owned by responsible people.

I’ve said this before but it’s worth saying again. If someone walking unsupervised on our streets can’t be trusted with a gun then they can’t be trusted with a can of gasoline and a book of matches. Hence, the rule for gun ownership has already been established: “The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”

  1. This one jumped out at me: He wants to, “regulate the trafficking of illegal guns”.

    Ahem…

How does one “regulate” an already illegal activity? Or is his idea that making more guns illegal to more people will create a more robust black market? Or is he just throwing around the word “regulate” so as to confuse its meaning? More likely he is spitting out strings of syllables without much thought.

Here’s a thought: Should it be legal to run an anti Constitution, anti civil rights lobby within the United States? Maybe, but what about legislators who allow themselves to be influenced by such a lobby?

  2. “Helmke said he’s not pro-gun and he’s not anti-gun, but he is for establishing rules so that guns can be owned by responsible people.”

And I can imagine his idea of “responsible”.

  3. I would advise the carrying of arms while walking down the street with a can of gasoline. Not so much with matches, which are still cheap.

  4. “Helmke said he’s not pro-gun and he’s not anti-gun, but he is for establishing rules so that guns can be owned by responsible people.”

So that leaves him as anti-rights, pro-authoritarian, AND a liar!

“There’s no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws…you create a nation of law-breakers and then you cash in on guilt.” -Ayn Rand
