I participated in the Whidbey Island match at Holmes Harbor Rod and Gun Club on Saturday. The ferry ride, as usual, was pleasant. I found Jeff at the same place on the ferry as last time and we talked as the ferry took us across the sound.
The weather was good, the stages were good, and my guns ran perfectly. But some of my shooting wasn’t as good as I hoped. Things just weren’t a smooth as they should have been. I had barely practiced in the previous couple of weeks. And that practice was only with the .22. In the Center Fire Iron sight division I came in second by 0.27 seconds.
The stage above was interesting. The start position for rimfire was with the gun pointed at the yellow stop plate. This is to make things just a little faster for what is already a very fast stage. Upon the start signal you fire two rounds at each of the white plates then one round at the stop plate. If you can get all five hits in 1.00 seconds or less they put your name on a plaque. Apparently it’s not horrendously difficult with open class rifles. The best I got was 1.81 seconds with an iron sighted pistol. I could do better if I worked on it for an hour, but I’m not sure I could do 1.00 or better.

[Sometimes I’m just amazed that people can say and believe the things they do. Immigration from other countries is not a constitutionally protected right. There isn’t anything more American than our country’s founding document. The right to keep and bear arms is a specific enumerated right protected by that document. Is this guy’s mind that well partitioned that he can’t connected what he wrote in consecutive sentences?
The only way this makes sense to me is that people say things with the knowledge, at some level, people will hear what they want to hear. The anti-gun politician will say they “respect the Second Amendment and they don’t want to ban guns”. The next sentence will be that they “support the banning of assault weapons”. It could be that those sort of contradictory messages work on both the receiver and the sender. They say and hear what they want depending upon individual biases of the person at that particular moment. And those biases change from second to second. For example, one second they are of the opinion that the Bill of Rights is important and should be respected. The next second they believe nothing should stand in the way of preventing terrorists from murdering innocent people. They somehow cannot make the connection that these two beliefs are incompatible.
It could be this a built-in psychological mechanism common to almost all people.

This may have been the first televised presidential debate I have watched in it’s entirety since the first one. Yeah, Nixon v. Kennedy. I was young then, it was on a black and white T.V. and dinosaurs sometimes ate our fruit trees back in those days.
I think I was as bored with the debate tonight as I was with that first debate when I was a little kid.
Hillary talked about wanting to tax, spend, and implement gun control. Trump wanted to reduce taxes and regulations, wanted somewhat less gun control than Hillary, and made faces.

My Arizona CWP expired August 6th. I had a reminder on my phone for July 6th to renew it. I sent in the renewal about day later. About 10 days ago I got a call from someone in Arizona processing my form. I had forgotten to put my phone number on the form so they called my “old” number to see if that was still valid. It was. So that was taken care of. I had also written a personal check. They required a money order or cashiers check. They said I could send them the proper form of payment ASAP and she would match the payment with my existing renewal form or resubmit the form and it would be put at the end of the 75 day queue. I, of course, opted for the sending payment ASAP.
I got my new CWP last week.
But the point is they have a 75 day backlog of CWP applications and renewals. This is in a state that recently changed the law to not require a CWP (they have constitutional carry)!
Multiple conclusions can be made from this. One is “a right delayed is a right denied.” Another is, assuming they didn’t reduce the staff processing CWPs, the change to constitutional carry should have reduced the work load and wait times if the number of people carrying remained constant. This may mean the number of people carrying has gone up significantly.

A chief aim of the Constitution as drafted by the Constitutional Convention was to create a government with enough power to act on a national level, but without so much power that fundamental rights would be at risk. It is quite obvious that limit has been overstepped, and electing Hillary would essentially re-create the same greedy, selfish, tyrannical government that the King of England and Parliament had back in the 18th century. Then she could begin dismantling the Constitution piece by piece.
I hope the FBI does their job, and that the DOJ does theirs. Now THAT’S what I’m talkin’ ’bout. Go read the whole thing. It needs to go farther though, if it’s to have the needed effect. It needs to include a declaration that the oath-keeper will use all means available to protect citizens from outside authorities attempting to enforce unconstitutional laws or rules. Then we’ll start to have a real, constitutional republic.
Adding; “…and to this I pledge my life, my fortunes, and my sacred honor” wouldn’t hurt either. Those in law enforcement want us to see them as the “thin blue line” which protects us from aggression? OK then; let’s get serious about it for once.

I like the idea for one reason; it puts people on record as to whether they support human rights or whether they’ve allied themselves with the criminal class. Take names.
Of course we already have the second amendment, and multiple legal tools for enforcing it against all encroachment, so the logical response would be a declaration to the effect that the constitution and the enumerated rights therein, and others, will be enforced and protected with vigor in this town. Oh, how far we’ve fallen, that we contemplate special declarations and special laws to uphold what is already the Supreme Law of the Land.
There’s another mildly satisfying aspect to this proposal– The Progressives love to flout the law (it’s what they do – they’re criminals), and have created “sanctuary cities” for illegal immigrants which they view as future Democrat voters. This is a slap in their faces on that subject. Two can play at this stupid game, but the problem is that a stupid game is always a stupid game no matter who plays it. I doubt that there’s a Republican alive who understands that simple truth.

Anyway; this is the sort of thing (though poorly thought-out) that’ll eventually bring the country around to reason– The states, and in this case the cities, who love liberty will have to thumb their noses at authoritarian feds, and then be willing and able to back it with force. In this particular case it’s a pretty empty declaration, and if they were serious, as I indicated above, they’d simply use existing law to prosecute the Progressive offenders, fine them, disbar them, put them in prison or hang them, as appropriate. It’s the only way freedom survives, and the sooner we realize that the sooner we can start fixing things.
Snoqualmie Valley Rifle Club (SVRC) puts on USPSA like matches once a month during the summer (they wimp out from about October through March). I usually don’t go because I go to the steel matches at Renton on the same weekend. I could do both because the SVRC match is on Saturday and the Renton match is on Sunday, but I would rather not use up both days shooting. Two weeks ago I had other plans (helping move Barb’s son Max to Bellingham for college) on Sunday. So, I decided to shoot at SVRC for the first time in at least 10 years, perhaps 15.
I would rather they would run USPSA matches and report classifier results but they don’t and some of the stages didn’t quite match USPSA requirements and they don’t shoot any classifiers. But they were fun stages and to my surprise two guys I had met 20+ years ago at the Microsoft Gun Club were shooting as well. I probably see Sean Flynn two or three times a year anyway and Steve Morrow perhaps once every three to five years. But they were both there. They both reported they had not shot at the SVRC matches in something like a year or more and so it was quite a coincidence we all showed upon for the same match. We got into the same squad and were able to chat some before and during the match. It was nice to hang out with them.

Everyone shows as shooting minor power factor even though many of us were shooting major. This is just one of the USPSA rules they vary on. Had I remembered this before the match I would have brought the ammo I use for steel matches, improved my times some, and tried to be more accurate.
Overall (including Open and other divisions) I came in 8th out of 35 shooters.
I knew I was shooting well. Several people commented that I was doing well at the time. And there were a couple Open division shooters in our squad who I knew to be good shooters and my times were close to theirs. But, I didn’t really expect to win my division. I have never come in first in any USPSA type match in this state before. I did make some mistakes. I can’t count as fast as I can shoot and there were three targets which required six shots on. On two of them I fired seven shots. And I almost forgot the mandatory reload between two of the targets which cost me some time. Then there was a difficult disappearing target which I fired at twice and only got one D-zone hit. I should have just skipped the target entirely and gone for a better time.
Still, I’m very pleased with the results.
I took video of Sean and Steve and told them about it after the match was over. Sean offered me $10 to delete his video (I declined). Steve didn’t seem at all enthusiastic about me posting his on YouTube so I didn’t do anything with his video either. I had some sort of problem with the camera on the stage Barricade Two Step and didn’t get my shooting of that stage. The other stages turned out okay though:
