So far left they are right?

A friend sent me this link to a video (about 45 minutes long). The synopsis is:

Here's how it works (notice how many Bush & Co. is using now.):

1. Invoke a terrifying internal and external enemy
2. Create a gulag
3. Develop a thug caste
4. Set up an internal surveillance system
5. Harass citizens' groups
6. Engage in arbitrary detention and release
7. Target key individuals
8. Control the press
9. Dissent equals treason
10. Suspend the rule of law

Wolf's conclusion? Impeachment of Bush and Cheney is not enough. Prosecuting (and jailing) them for crimes committed is the only rational solution.

I wouldn't normally think my readers would be interested in this kind of stuff but something came up in this video that surprised me. She mentioned the 2nd Amendment. Each time she immediately went on to something else. She just used the words, "Second Amendment" then, basically, changed the subject.

Are the extreme left wing people (the organization who owns website for this video and many others with a similar theme is based in San Fransisco) thinking it's time to consider the 2nd Amendment as an individual right?

The sad thing is that it's the left's fault that this could happen. When you constantly indoctrinate your children to use the power of the state to cure all ills, then it takes very little for that state to get away with every last thing on that list.

You know, I'm wrong on that. It's not a left vs. right thing. That's a over simplification of political forces that pits us against each other. Politics can be better summarized by a grid with the left and right motions being equivalent to what we consider left and right today, but with the added dimension of up and down, where down equals authoritarians and up being libertarian.

The general left is as totalitarian as it can be. Leftist ideas are not generally workable nor do most people agree with them in the sense that they'd do them voluntarily, so the left uses the power of the state to force their views on others.

They've already performed most of her points. Conservatives and liberty minded people are their thug caste. If you don't buy into global warming, redistribution of wealth, or whatever their pet cause du jour is, they've readily marked you as "the enemy". The press? Give me a break. That's nearly 100% in the leftists' control as it is. Suspension of the rule of law? You mean, like Zero-Tolerance policies?

I could go on, but the live preview is starting to choke. The left-authoritarians are creating the framework necessary for this to happen and just now are acting surprised that they're seeing the fruits of their labor? Give me a break.

I am of the opinion (but I might be easily persuaded) that the "right" is doing most of the enabling, laying the groundwork, etc. and the "left" will be those that actually exercise the authority in a tyrannical manner. Of course it depends some on which aspect of liberty you are talking about. For example, "the right" seems more willing to attack the 4th Amendment while "the left" has less regard for the 2nd.

Historically it has been the socialists and communists that have seized power but I can't see a reason to believe it will always be the case.

Robb is oh so right on the insidious permutation of cultural learned helplessness fostered on us at every turn by forces on the extreme. One thing they all have in common: they want you to trade just a little bit, mind you, it will not be much, of that freedom to feel safe. Go ahead; take a sip out of the cup… wasn’t that tasty? Would you like some more? Just a little pinprick this time…

Joe, you are not entirely wrong, but the more I think about it, the more I realize even my grid analogy is wrong.

Gonna throw up a post right now to explain my thoughts a little better (requires an illustration).
