When I first read that yesterday, I immediately called them up, thanked them for their support of gun right s and stand against stupidity and tyranny (strange how they oftengo together), and informed them that both of the 1911s I plan on buying in the next six months are going to be from STI.

I also congratulate STI on taking such a stand.

From a profit and loss position, I doubt that any increase in sales to gun loving non-LEOs would be enough to offset the loss of sales to LEOs. Even if you factor in the difference in the profit margins. Don't forget that government purchasers in other states will be less likely to buy their products since they could see the same thing happening to them if their state were to enact new laws.

However, there's this cynical little devil sitting up there on my shoulder saying that they might be figuring this will bring in enough new high-markup sales that would more than offset their non-profit direct sales to government purchasers in California. Don't forget, they can't say their products can't be sold in CA, just that they won't sell them there themselves. So, the cop shops out in CA can still get them, they just have to pay a higher price and get them from a dealer.

I haven't read the new law enough to know for a fact, but I'm willing to bet that it's like pretty much every anti-gun law in that there is an exception for law enforcement users, so there would be nothing stopping the import of STI guns into the state for those buyers.

Lest I be esteemed their enemy, I'll reiterate that I commend STI for this action and wish all the other companies would follow suit.
