« Not Missouri | Main | First snowfall »

You know, you blow up one sun and suddenly everyone expects you to walk on water.

Samantha Carter
A character in Stargate SG-1
Played by Amanda Tapping
[James and I just finished watching this series on DVD. It was good. Very good. We're sorry it's over. The ending could have been a little bit better. James was probably a little more disappointed than I. I thought it left things such that you could imagine how all the unresolved things would probably be figured out and that was okay. But James was a bit annoyed saying that it wasn't that much different than the ending of any other episode. I figure it gives them possibilities for the movies.--Joe]

Ugh, that last episode was a terrible ending. I didn't mind that they left things open, but that particular story just wasn't good.

I didn't think it was that bad. However, I will agree things did move a little slow. :-)

And of course, Samantha Carter is now the head of the Atlantis installation, so you can catch her there. (They've kept her more to "plot device" status than an integral character, which I think is probably the right thing to do to avoid hijacking the show.)

They are going to release two movies which will wrap up the storyline:

Not to beat an an old drum, but if you haven't done the Babylon 5 series I would recommend it highly. The first season is a little slow because the whole background and characters have to be explained and developed, but once you get by that just hold on for the ride. And bear in mind that Straczynski did the whole thing himself, starting with the idea of the characters names, and using very early '90's technology to film it.

I'm glad you liked the whole series. I thought the first 3-4 years were pretty good, then the plots starting devolving into silliness. The notion of the Ori (?) was just plain desperation, although it was nice to see Ben Browder and Claudia Black again. Ah, hell, I could go on all night. Over-all good show that had typical aging problems.

+1 on the Babylon 5 recommendation, plus I would add the new Battlestar Galactica to the recommended list.

Claudia Black was wonderful! James and I both thought her character was great fun.

We are fully caught up on Battlestar Galactica, including watching Razor in the theater last week.

I've seen most of Babylon 5, James has seen all of it.

I think James has Stargate Atlantis (probably about season three or four) next in the queue.

Atlantis season 3 is in the queue next. We're not quite caught up with Battlestar because season 3 isn't out on DVD yet *grumble* I've watched all of Babylon 5 except for season 5 and we're going to go through it again at some point. Maybe after Farscape.
