Mother Nature deserves the credit

This is interesting:

On January 15th, 2022, Tonga’s Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha’apai volcano erupted, spewing tons of gas and ash into the atmosphere. According to a Wednesday report by National Public Radio, the blast contained enough water vapor – notorious for its heat-trapping abilities – to temporarily raise Earth’s temperature.

“The massive amount of water vapor is roughly 10% of the normal amount of vapor found in the stratosphere, equaling more than 58,000 Olympic-size swimming pools,” NPR wrote.

The chemicals “came from a volcano that’s more than 12 miles wide, with a caldera sitting roughly 500 feet below sea level. One day earlier, Tongan officials reported the volcano was in a continuous eruption, sending a 3-mile-wide plume of steam and ash into the sky. Then the big blast came, sending ash, gases and vapor as high as 35 miles — a record in the satellite era — into the atmosphere,” per NPR.

In a July paper published in Geophysical Research Letters, scientists discovered that Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha’apai “may be the first volcanic eruption observed to impact climate not through surface cooling caused by volcanic sulfate aerosols, but rather through surface warming.”

Water vapor lingers in the air, which contributes to its ability to retain heat.

“It normally takes around 2-3 years for sulfate aerosols from volcanoes to fall out of the stratosphere. But the water from the Jan. 15 eruption could take 5-10 years to fully dissipate,” NPR explained.

I initially wondered if the extra water could be responsible for the extraordinary wet spring we had this year. But I read elsewhere that the volcano put the water in the stratosphere and it will take a couple years for the water to move down into the troposphere and become rain.

Its sounds as if, for the next few years, we can expect warmer than normal weather. Don’t let the climate alarmist blame it on fossil fuels. Insist Mother Nature gets the appropriate credit.

  1. Warm weather is far less deadly than cold.

I’d say that volcano did us a flavor.

  2. Why wouldn’t moisture falling through the atmosphere, even slowly, cool it?
    Isn’t that what rain does?
Heat on this planet is determined by solar activity. Or the lack thereof. Period.
If solar radiation is absorbed by water vapor up high. Then it’s not reacting on the surface. (Where temperature readings are taken.) Which seems to me to cool things. As atmosphere is a very poor conductor.
But the most important is that it was NPR reporting. Which means if it’s not fear porn with a narrative….It’s probably just plane fear porn.
And no matter what weather we have it will be extreme. Because were doing it. And were white supreme extremists, it’s what we do.
And only Klaus, Bill, George, and Al can fix it with carbon credit trading.
And you eating cockroach protein meat.

    • Water vapor is the primary “greenhouse gas” in our atmosphere. As a liquid, water “cools” things as it evaporates because it takes a lot of energy to vaporize water. If it’s already vapor, as spewed out from a volcano, then it’s just another one of the various gasses in the air.

As it condenses, however, water gives up a lot of heat, and so you could say that it would, at that time, be a warming influence, in addition to being a greenhouse gas. That release of heat upon condensation, by the way, is what powers thunderstorms and hurricanes.

But, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. As gigantic as the volumes coming out of a single volcano may be (in our minds, you know, as compared to even our biggest farts), they’re extremely tiny compared to the atmosphere as a whole. Any effects on actual “climate” (meaning long term), from one eruption, or one series of eruptions, of a single volcano, are going to be negligible. Weather; yes, it’s been known to happen. Climate; not so much.

You have to add up the effects of all the volcanoes over all of history to get significant effects on climate. THOSE of course are absolutely real.

The main reason NPR and the other legacy media outlets have to talk about these things is to help keep the Laudato Si mindset firmly up front and center in the minds of the most gullible around the world.

      • All good. Except you fell into the trap of using the term “greenhouse gasses”, No such thing bro.
As gasses only expand when heated, and contract when cooled. And are the poorest conductors of temperature known.
A 1,000 degrees C. can only be felt few feet away?
It’s NPR, they blow more hot air than the volcanos any day.

    • In addition to Lyle’s comment about condensation there is the absorption spectrum to consider. That a blog post for another day.

      • Something else we might consider is that any vapor in the upper atmosphere is only heated for roughly 12 hours. Before darkness and cold temps recondense it to liquid and gravity takes over.
I don’t think it could last years in the upper reaches.

  3. “Mother Nature”? In caps no less? Do I see an avowed atheist deifying nature, and thus engaging in pagan religion?

    Anyway, for both the scientists and the pagans (Romanists, Pan theists, et al) along with their pretend-scientists;
The very name, “fossil” fuel indicates the reality that the carbon locked up in them was once a part of the biosphere, specifically the atmosphere. If its presence in the antediluvian atmosphere wasn’t calamitous, then all logic would suggest that releasing it back into the air where it came from won’t be calamitous either. It can only lead to the nourishment of more life.

Support life; be part of the cycle. Free the carbon!

    And now that we’ve established that you’re religious, here’s what the one true God, creator of the heavens, the earth, the seas, and all that is in them, has to say on the matter of climate alarmism;

“While the earth remains, Seedtime and harvest, Cold and heat, Winter and summer, And day and night Shall not cease.” Genesis 8:22

Quite the opposite of the Laudato Si message of the pagans and their fake scientists, no?

  4. I’ll take warmists a lot more seriously just as soon as they explain ice ages, and why it was warmer in Caesar’s day than it is now.

  5. Increased water vapor = increased cloud cover.
    Clouds are reflective.
They also act as an insulator.
Their influence is complex, and whether they net warm or cool depends on their altitude, and their latitude, their thickness, how long the day is relative to the night at that location and time of year, whether they are pure water or have other particulates, droplet size, if they are water clouds or ice clouds, etc.
Not willing to bet much on their predictions.
Only willing to bet very marginally more on their after-the-fact measurements if they have been “adjusted.”

  6. The goal is the death of most of us. The excuse is “climate change”. The criminal left is NEVER going to let a minor inconvenience like FACTS get in the way of their agenda.
