Quote of the day—NRA-ILA

Economics has a concept called “revealed preference.” The gist is that a person’s observed actions reveal more about their preferences than what a person might profess to prefer. As applied to anti-gun politicians, despite all the noise they might make about stopping the criminal misuse of guns, their actions reveal that their policies are designed to attack the rights of law-abiding Americans.

For FY 2017 there were a grand total of 12 prosecutions out of 112,000 denials. When, all else being equal, there is a 1 in 10,000 chance of being prosecuted for a crime in which the perpetrator necessarily offers himself up to the government, the goal isn’t public safety, it’s to control the law-abiding.

Gun Control is About Stripping Rights NOT Stopping Crime

  1. Well the name may be a fresh one, but the concept is of course as old as the hills. “Actions speak louder than words” is what we used to say. I’ve often referred to it here as “actions over time” (revealing true beliefs and intentions, often contrary to stated motivations).

Apparently some young psychologist (or economist – same thing) has just discovered the concept, and therefore needs to give it a name, never knowing that it was being discussed in depth for millennia before he was born. Or did he know all of this already, and is being pretentious in giving it a new name, hoping we’ll not notice and therefore think him a genius for “discovering” something “new”? One is left to wonder. Perhaps if we observe his other actions we’ll be able to extrapolate his personal agendas. We could call it “forensic observation”.

I’ve more than once speculated as to whether “educated” people can be some of the dumbest among us. Given what some schools are teaching now, it is certainly true in specific cases, but I’m wondering about this in the more general sense.

  2. As Lyle and Jesus say. You know them by their fruit. And after the “Summer of love’s”, Burn, Loot, Murder session. With no response from law enforcement.
I feel it’s safe to conclude. This ain’t about restraining criminals.
As always. It’s about who gets to shoot whom. Everything else is bullshit.
