Quote of the day—Petr Svab

Censorship in America is peculiar in its form as it’s largely not the doing of the government. It’s not even necessarily the result of government pressure, though that now seems to be underway as well. Rather, it’s based on actors both in and out of government across the American society aligning with an ideology that’s totalitarian at its root.

It’s unlikely that Americans can rely on somebody pushing against the ideology from the top. In fact, the ideology appears to now be endorsed by a majority of the government.

Yet it may be that government measures wouldn’t offer a solution as long as a significant share of the population still subscribes to the ideology or is willing to go along with it.

As Judge Learned Hand said in his 1944 speech “The Spirit of Liberty”:

“Liberty lies in the hearts of men and women; when it dies there, no constitution, no law, no court can even do much to help it.”

It appears Americans’ stand is now to rekindle that spark of liberty in the hearts of their peers.

[I know it’s tough for a lot of people to do, but it’s important. Speak up for freedom of thought, religion, assemble, association, and speech. Let people know you are proud to keep and bear arms. Stand up for liberty.—Joe]

  1. The whole slew of gun bills moving through our fake government should answer the question, one way or the other.
Do we love freedom enough? I suppose we will soon find out.

  2. …and all the world wondered after the beast.

And they worshiped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshiped the beast, saying, Who is like the beast? who is able to make war with him? Revelation 13:3 & 4

It’s all there, for any who wish to endeavor to understand it. There was a time when the entire Protestant world understood these things to a tee, but the “cancel culture” has been at work now through our education, religious and media institutions for generations, and that understanding has therefore now been lost.

I’ve tried to explain it at some length, but then no one wants to read it for its length. And it can’t be explained in short, glib statements in comments. SO you’ll have to take a trip back in the annals of time, to the Dark Ages, and read Martin Luther’s theses, and Huss’ theses, and Tyndale’s, and thus begin, over time, to glean a clue.

In short; it is precisely that persecuting power in the Middle Ages which comes alive and grows again, only this time it will be much worse. And remember; ALL the world wonders after the beast. That includes the United States of America too, as playing a significant role in this disaster.

And so when you talk about “religious liberty” I wonder how many understand the subtle but earth-shaking differences in the possible interpretations of the term. Like everything the Romish “left” touches or uses, it can, while sounding very similar and very good, have a meaning entirely opposite to the way others might interpret it. In short; it can mean, “We are ‘free’ to tell you what to think and what to do, and in turn you are equally ‘free’ to think and do exactly as we tell you.”

Thus the whole world is being set “free” by way of having one central power which decides what is in the “Common Good” and will be able to enforce it with absolute authority. Individual countries or individual persons will have absolute “liberty” SO LONG AS their thoughts, actions and words are in absolute accordance with “The Common Good”.

“…you will be like gods, knowing both good and evil” – satan

  3. may as well be the gooberment…they aren’t doing a damn thing to stop it…

  4. I quit Facebook, because they censored me.

It gave me a (very small) sense of pride, and I believe that for me, personally, on balance, it was a net positive.

But, in terms of free speech on line, I’m not sure who won that particular battle.

    • And how many people do I know that have canceled Facebook, Netflix, … and did it make any difference?

Not that I can tell? We’re at the noise level in terms of impact. And it feels like we are only hurting ourselves. If we want to play the cancel card we need a lot more leverage.

  5. I stand up for individual liberty and the bill of rights whenever I can…..

But, I confess it so often feels hopeless. Maybe it’s the result of living in a blue state that was, until recently, not crazy. We’ve been overrun with an influx of folks fleeing NJ / NY etc.and wanting to install that crazy here.

I try to continue to hold out hope for a free and properous America. What I keep seeing tells me we’re screwed, but I keep trying to convince myself I’m wrong.

I have had people stop by my office at work and secretly confess that they’re a conservative, didn’t vote for biden etc.
