Quote of the day—Justin Anderson

Sales have definitely been brisk, especially of small, concealable handguns. We also saw a spike in sales of tactical rifles like AR-15s and AK-47s, for which I think we can confidently thank Beto O’Rourke.

ATF: 423M guns in America, 1.2 per person, 8.1B rounds of ammunition a year
[If the anti-gun people want there to be fewer guns in circulation the best way for them to accomplish that is to stop trying to ban and/or restrict gun sales.

Using other information from the article, I’ll leave following as a exercises for the reader:

  • Calculate the percentage (worst case using reasonably valid assumptions) of the total number of guns used in a murder or violent crime each year.
  • Calculate the percentage (worst case using reasonably valid assumptions) of the total number of rounds of ammunition used in a murder or violent crime each year.

And more directly related to the Anderson quote, the anti-gun people should ask themselves, “Are all these people buying the guns that we plan to confiscate just really stupid? Or, are they planning to shoot the people advocating for confiscation?”—Joe]

  1. “If they (sic) anti-gun people want there to be fewer guns in circulation the best way for them to accomplish that is to stop trying to ban and/or restrict gun sales.”

Surely they all know that. That word “if” at the front of the sentence is worth contemplating.

This brings up another interesting exercise. Giving the leftist movers and shakers the benefit any doubt and assuming they possess full, above average mental capacity, what would be their thinking and their motivations for doing what they’re doing and saying what they’re saying?

    It changes everything, doesn’t it?

Let’s say then that they do NOT want to reduce the number of guns in circulation. Let’s say they’ve been hyping up the issue for these past decades with the full knowledge and intent being that such hype would increase interest in guns and thus increase the number of guns in circulation. Let’s assume, for the sake of the exercise, that the easily predictable result of their rantings and railings (which doesn’t take a genius to understand) has been their intent all along. Let’s say they’ve observed the results of their actions long ago and thus understand them.

“But Lyle, what are you saying? Just what are you getting at?”
I’m saying maybe it is a mistake to assume blithering stupidity when it is possible that they’re not as stupid as they let on, and maybe that they’re not stupid at all. Maybe they’re relatively smart.

Take everything the left has been saying for the last 130 years and put it into the context of an intelligent and aware (if thoroughly dishonest and conniving) leftist leadership. And of course they use stupid people! but that doesn’t mean the stupid people are led exclusively by stupid people. And anyway, wouldn’t it take a smart person to rally all the stupid people to his side, and manipulate them?

Once again I point out that the most scathing indictment one can make against any leftist (including any Republican) is that he’s known all along exactly what he has been doing and saying, and that he’s known all along exactly what he’s not been doing, and not saying.

Beyond that it is a very interesting exercise, or thought experiment. Get together with some friends and try it; “What if those ‘idiots’ actually know what they’re doing?”

It’s a bit of a tough exercise, because it starts with the notion that we ourselves have been played all along.

Also very interestingly, it means that we’ve had a built-in propensity to absolve the left (handing them a “not guilty by reason of stupidity” verdict) out of our own self-interest, for if they are smart it means that we are fools and therefore they must be stupid! It also brings up the notion of the enemy doing its damnedest to act as stupid as possible, as a careful and deliberate tactic.

And once again; welcome to Crazytown, for if they’re not stupid at all (for how else do they rule the world while we pay the bills?) then everything you know is wrong.

    • “what he’s not been doing, and not saying” is an interesting phrase. It certainly fits many conservatives today.

Are we no longer confident of conservative principles (whatever they are)?

    • Hmm… Perhaps we should be planning for a multiple generation resistance to prepare for a time when the rubish of what is left of our society can be reorganized into a functional society on a scale that is a lot smaller than today.
