Quote of the day—Ed Driscoll

The constantly shifting Orwellian language codes are important, because the insider-lingo allows leftists to feel a sense of smug superiority to their fellow man. Or as Jeffrey Folks wrote at the American Thinker last year, “For liberals, the distinction between the ‘dumb masses’ and their enlightened selves renders life meaningful.  Disdain for ordinary folks is not just an ancillary trait of liberalism.  It is fundamental to the its nature.”

TESTING THE LIMITS OF THE NEWSPEAK DICTIONARY
[This reminds me of the attitude of the Nazis toward the “inferior races”. See also what I wrote about the Communist Manifesto. The most important part in this context is:

The Communist Manifesto tells its readers that supporters of Communism are the intelligent people. They deserve, are destined to, and the good of all human kind depends on them, being in charge. That they “understand” the benefits of Communism to the bafflement of others is probably proof to them that they are the intellectual superiors of those that think Communism is, at best, prone to abuse.

The political left enables people to feel superior to others. They are told they are more “enlightened”, more “tolerant”, and just better people. If their “inferiors” adapt beliefs and behaviors which close the gap the left must find a new basis to feel superior. It is fundamental to their nature.

Like a spoiled child we must set firm limits and enforce them. The alternative is to climb aboard the crazy train on its way to a special version of hell.—Joe]

  1. Another way to look at this: dictatorial power over other humans is so inherently evil that most of those who aspire to it seek for a justification for doing so, beyond “I want it”. Over the millennia this has taken many forms, from “the divine right of kings” to pseudo-Biblical arguments that black persons are designated to be slaves, to slogans about “kulaks” or “capitalists” or “Untermenschen” or “the one percent”.

  2. Good points.

Unfortunately we as a society climbed aboard that Crazy Train long ago. Ozzy Osborne didn’t fully grasp it, though he appears to have had at least an inkling.

“If their “inferiors” adapt beliefs and behaviors which close the gap the left must find a new basis to feel superior.”

True; it is thus an ever escalating insanity, which, as you indicate, is fed and encouraged by anyone and everyone who goes along in any way whatsoever, for any reason. Many a Bible story tries to make this point.

Whenever we show any inclination to go along with the perpetrators, we’re NOT demonstrating some virtue of tolerance which will make them approve of us, but we’re showing to them our cowardice, gullibility or complicity (they’ll accept having their MARK on your hand or on your forehead – in your deeds or in your agreement – either way, it works to feed the beast). Worse yet, and most importantly, we’re demonstrating to the crazies that they are in fact the ones in charge. We’re granting to them a wrong authority instead of giving them the rebuke and correction they sorely need..

The result of the Council of Trent is a prime example. Perhaps it is THE prime example defining modern history. The one, “little” compromise spelled the end of the Protestant Reformation. It showed the papacy to be the authority in the world, and the Reformers to be merely the rebellious children thereof, and so now we slip inexorably toward a new and more terrible version of the Dark Ages.

Thus is defined the “slippery slope”. It’s akin to an alcoholic going off the wagon, being convinced that “one little drink” can’t hurt a thing. He is ruined in that one “little” act. That is civilization as a whole; we’ve always “slipped off the wagon” with seemingly innocuous capitulations. Today I’ll spare you another sermon about the immutability of God’s law, about our propensity to fail, the consequences of failure, and about ultimate justice and ultimate mercy coming together on the cross in the plan of salvation because of God’s love for his children, about the once-and-for-all, perfect solution to the world’s singular problem, but, yeah; you sort of got it anyway.

  3. There is no superlative that progressives will not appropriate, redefine, and inappropriately apply to themselves exclusively. See “liberal”, “compassion”, “enlightened”, etc for examples.

Simultaneously, there is no imprecation, particularly ones that have purchase in the general public, that progressives will not apply to non-progressive resistance to their power goals. See “racism”, “hate”, “sexism”, blahblahblah-phobe, yackity-smackity-ist etc. Objectively, they engage in the worst forms of these horrible things, particularly against minorities that have escaped from their political plantation, but they will proclaim most loudly that they are incapable of such vileness.

I’m convinced that the religious statement “The personal is the political” is the best way to start a war between the holy enlightened and the “Just leave me alone” infidels. The holy have already started the war. The infidels haven’t figured out they’re in a war yet.

  4. I——don’t want to work, I just want to bang with my gun all day! At least that’s my version of that song.
Good points all round guys. It seems to me that commies in America forgot their inner Mao though. Political power comes through the barrel of a gun. All they have this time is the police. Which won’t work for them in a free for all.

  5. A special version of hell …. reserved for child molesters and people who talk at the theater.

Seriously – that’s what I thought of when I read the last sentence… and then I thought, “y’know? It fits.”

  6. With spoiled children you set limits and enforce them.

With communists the ONLY viable solution is to exterminate
them….just like with islamists. NEITHER sociopolitical construct
can or will EVER willingly coexist with any other belief. BOTH
creeds MANDATE that their adherents convert, enslave and if
required KILL anyone not a member of their cult. You don’t “co exist”
with a rabid dog and you would be a fool to try and “co exist” with
a commie or a muzzie. Feel this is too harsh? Hey…it’s THEIR RULES
    not mine.
