Quote of the day—Paul Sperry

Fast and Furious was a Justice Department program that allowed assault weapons — including .50-caliber rifles powerful enough to take down a helicopter — to be sold to Mexican drug cartels allegedly as a way to track them. But internal documents later revealed the real goal was to gin up a crisis requiring a crackdown on guns in America. Fast and Furious was merely a pretext for imposing stricter gun laws.

Team Obama conspired to derail investigations into who was responsible by first withholding documents under subpoena — for which Holder earned a contempt-of-Congress citation — and later claiming executive privilege to keep evidence sealed.

But thanks to the court order, Justice has to cough up the “sensitive” documents. So far it’s produced 20,500 lightly redacted pages, though congressional investigators say they hardly cover all the internal department communications under subpoena. They maintain the administration continues to “withhold thousands of documents.”

Will the criminals finally be brought to justice?

Check out the date on the quote. That was over three years ago. So the answer is, almost for certain, no.—Joe]

  1. We have a different president now than we had three years ago. VERY different, indeed. That may be just one of the many prosecutions that Huber, et al, are pursuing.

  2. “.50-caliber rifles powerful enough to take down a helicopter ”

    This again?

    • Yeah, I’m pretty sure that any well placed centerfire rifle round will take down all non-military helicopters so it’s not false. I gave it a pass because that wasn’t the main point of interest in the article.

      • If you take out the pilot, sure. Taking out the engine isn’t good enough, because that just gives the pilot an opportunity to demonstrate he hasn’t forgotten how to perform an autorotation descent.

        • I was thinking of the tail rotor. Wouldn’t that force a hard crash? And even if it is a survivable landing from a disabled engine, it still was “brought down” by a single center fire bullet.

But the lack of a pilot would result in a hard crash too.

  3. No statute of limitations on murder. 400+ dead Mexicans, at least 2 US LEOs murdered. I’d suggest it will never be too late to prosecute.

  4. One of those .50 BMG semiauto rifles turned up in the hideout of that big cheese cartel leader that was caught recently (last year?).

  5. RE the Helicopter discussion: IMHO a forced landing due to damage (ANY damage) qualifies as ‘taking down’ a helicopter. Remember; you don’t have to DESTROY a tank to DEFEAT a tank.

As for the “…program that allowed assault weapons…to be sold to Mexican drug cartels…”, That’s like saying the 2nd Amendment ‘gives’ us the right to bear arms.

If I recall correctly (and I followed F&F from it’s breaking by Codrea and Vanderboegh), what few revelations that came out indicated that more than one FFL proactively contacted ATF about suspicious purchasers (damn near begging them to come nab these guys) only to be told to proceed with the sales or have their licenses threatened.
